Deep-Tech Climate Hardware | Mid-IR Laser Systems
The Company: We are building a laser-based open-path greenhouse gas quantification system for industrial environments (N₂O, CH₄, NH₃, CO₂). The technology originates from several years of research and development within DTU projects. Significant scientific and engineering groundwork has already been invested, and the system has reached outdoor validation (TRL 5). The system is:
Based on mid-IR TDLAS with a retroreflector-based multi-path architecture
Designed for spatial mapping across industrial sites
Capable of full-site emission quantification (kg/h)
Moving toward MVP, accreditation, and commercialization
We are at the inflection point: transforming a validated deep-tech platform into a robust, deployable industrial system.
The Team & Culture

KhaosGuard grew out of several years of DTU research, but we are now stepping into the next phase: building a real company around a technology that has already proven itself technically. You won’t be joining a corporate structure but you will be joining a small, committed team that cares deeply about getting this right.
You’ll work closely with:
A founder who is driving commercialization and strategy
DTU founders who know the physics inside out

The Role & What You Bring

As CTO, you will architect and industrialize a mid-IR laser-based system that combines optical design, signal processing, embedded integration, and atmospheric modeling into a robust, field-ready product.
You should be comfortable operating across:
Mid-IR optical architecture (TDLAS)
DAQ and FPGA-level signal acquisition
Real-time fitting algorithms (C/C++ / Python)
Embedded integration (laser drive, detectors, telemetry)
Wind-field integration and emission modelling (strong plus)
System ruggedization for industrial environments
Productization roadmap and path toward accreditation
We’re looking for someone with:
Strong hands-on experience in laser spectroscopy / photonics
Experience running and designing lab & field experiments independently
Product thinking, balancing performance, reliability, and cost
The ability to lead and grow a technical team
This role requires someone who can see the full system, make architectural trade-offs, and turn advanced physics into a deployable product.
Stage & Risk

This is an equity-based co-founder role.
The technology is at TRL 5, validated in relevant outdoor conditions after several years of DTU-driven research and engineering. We are now moving toward building a true MVP and preparing the system for industrial deployment.
This stage comes with responsibility and uncertainty but also real influence. As CTO, you won’t inherit a finished product roadmap. You’ll help define how we move from advanced prototype to robust, deployable system. Compensation evolves with funding and commercial milestones. The upside is directly linked to what we build together.
This role suits someone motivated by ownership, long-term impact, and the challenge of turning deep-tech into a real product. If you want to build this together and shape the next phase of the technology, I’d welcome a conversation.
Why This Matters

Industrial greenhouse gas emissions are still poorly quantified. Many facilities rely on estimates, indirect calculations, or localized measurements that don’t reflect full-site reality.
At the same time, regulation is tightening and measurement requirements are becoming more explicit and enforceable. Industries are increasingly expected to move from reporting assumptions to reporting measured data. Existing solutions are often slow, fragmented, or not designed for continuous, site-wide quantification.
We are building a system designed for real-world industrial deployment, a solution that combines scientific excellence with practical usability.
