Purpose of the Job
* The train movements are controlled by Automatic Train Control (ATC) System in a safe way. The Trackside ATC is responsible to send to Trainborne ATC the track conditions that allow entering in a given segment. Those conditions could be: point machines at right position, track clear, speed restriction, route set, etc. The Trainborne ATC compares the information received from Trackside ATC against train actual conditions (speed, position, track, direction) and can restrict its movement if there is any risk to go over a safe limit.
* The ATC System Designer is part of the Project Engineering Team under the coordination of ATC Leader. He/She develops ATC system architecture, trackside and trainborne, defining and allocating requirements, evaluating design trade‑offs, balancing technical risk, defining and assessing interfaces, keeping close coordination with verification and validation activities and with project deployment activities, in line with the system roadmap.
Organisation

Main Responsibilities
ATC System includes both trackside and trainborne. ATC System Designer main responsibilities are:
* Design system and provide related documents (specification, architecture, interface, etc.).
* Lead ATC Design Reviews.
* Ensure the ATC configuration by application data or coding is performed regarding the process and ready for testing.
* Investigate the Verification and Validation (V&V) test failures for corrective actions.
Performance Measurements
* Project QCD (Quality, Cost and Delivery) commitment.
* On‑time delivery for ATC deliverables (SyRS – System Requirements Specification, SyAD – System Architecture Description, SyID – System Interface Description, SyOCD – System Operational Contexts Description, …) according to project planning and Document Master List (DML) (EDP – Engineering Delivery Performance), approval status.
* Defect detected on ATC (DQI – Delivery Quality Indicator).
* Cooperation and reactivity to support Root Cause Analysis Identification of contract variations (through traceability & coverage of requirements).
Educational Requirements
* Graduated in engineering (electronics, embedded systems or equivalent).
Desirable: None.
Experience
* Mandatory: Experience in complex real‑time system (signaling, avionics, defense, safety related systems).
* Desirable: Automatic Train Operation (ATO) systems (including train control); Rolling stock systems (especially the ones that interface with trainborne Automatic Train Protection (ATP), like brakes, traction, doors); Signaling (System, Interlocking or Automatic Train Supervision (ATS)); Basic software development skills.
Competencies & Skills
* English (good verbal and written communication skills).
* Ability to work transversally with engineering teams / Autonomy / Coordination.
* System engineering knowledge.
* System Specification and Requirements Development.
* Software engineering (master methods and tools to configure generic ATC software).
* Defect analysis and able to propose a corrective solution.
* Proactivity.
