Context
We’re in the middle of a major infrastructure evolution — moving from a traditional, bare‑metal environment to a modern, scalable AWS setup. The foundations are there, the migration has begun, and now we’re looking for a technical leader who can take it further.
What You’ll Do
* Lead the AWS migration: design, plan, and execute the move to AWS while maintaining legacy systems until migration is complete.
* Be hands‑on: architect, build, fix, and troubleshoot alongside the team.
* Modernise the stack using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible), Docker, AWS services, and MySQL.
* Own compliance: ensure infrastructure meets PCI‑DSS and National Bank of Belgium standards.
* Manage databases: backup, recovery, security, performance tuning, and optimisation.
* Coach and grow the team: mentor junior engineers and aid in hiring.
* Collaborate cross‑team: work with developers to design scalable, reliable, and secure applications, and communicate technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders.
* Troubleshoot infrastructure issues including build, deployment, and test failures.
* Coordinate infra‑related projects and oversee third‑party solutions.
* Provide on‑call support 24/7 (shared 1–2 times per month).
* Document clearly and maintain technical records.
What You Bring
* Minimum 10 years experience in systems engineering.
o Strong AWS experience at scale.
o Expertise in Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, Ansible/Ansible.
o Strong Linux and Docker skills.
o Proficient in Bash scripting.
o Excellent understanding of networking.
o Balanced knowledge of on‑premise and cloud infrastructure.
o MySQL database administration (performance, backup/restore).
o Basic knowledge of HSMs.
o Experience operating 24/7 highly available production systems.

o Able to coach, delegate, and make decisions.
o Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
o Excellent communication skills with technical and non‑technical audiences.
o Mindset: proactive, organised, communicative, team player, and comfortable stretching beyond your comfort zone.
