Area Sales Manager – UK, Ireland & Nordics

My client, a Belgian-based manufacturer of highly specialized packaging solutions, is looking for a skilled and technically minded Area Sales Manager to cover the UK, Ireland, and Nordic regions. With a strong engineering core and a deep niche in bagging and boxing automation systems, they build fully custom, high-speed packaging lines for industries with demanding requirements.
This is not a transactional sales role. The company operates in a project-based environment—nothing is sold off-the-shelf. Each order has a long production and engineering cycle (up to 40 weeks), meaning your ability to consult, challenge, and advise clients is critical.
💼 About the Role
You’ll manage and grow sales in your region, focusing on complex, technical packaging projects. Your primary mission is to understand each customer’s unique process and propose the most cost-effective and technically feasible solution. Many competitors rely on surface-level discussions; you won’t.
You’ll work closely with a team of 12 international salespeople and 8 pre-sales engineers. You’ll be backed by in-house engineering, R&D, and production where you’ll also spend time getting hands-on technical product training.
🎯 Your Responsibilities
* Build and manage relationships with customers in the Nordics, UK, and Ireland
* Lead technical consultative sales processes – from first contact through to delivery
* Identify cost-efficient, tailored solutions for special or high-speed product packaging
* Challenge client assumptions when needed – don’t just give in to price or specs
* Work alongside pre-sales engineers to shape competitive project proposals
* Participate in internal project briefings with engineering and production
* Report to the Sales Director and operate from the HQ when not traveling
👤 Who We’re Looking For
* Belgian resident or eligibility to work in Belgium (occasional presence in the factory required)
* Strong technical-commercial profile with consultative sales experience
* Background in manufacturing environments (e.g. machinery, automation, carton industry)
* Minimum 3+ years in a B2B sales or pre-sales role, ideally in project-based sales
* Skilled at navigating long sales cycles and influencing decision-makers
* Fluent in English (written and spoken). Other languages not required.
* Willing to travel up to 30% of the time
* Assertive, customer-focused, and not afraid to challenge clients with better solutions
