Job Description
We’re seeking a Director of Data to lead our organization’s data strategy, governance, and analytics initiatives. This role will oversee how data is collected, managed, and leveraged to drive business insights and innovation. The ideal candidate combines strategic vision with hands-on technical expertise, ensuring data is a trusted and asset across the enterprise.
* Data Strategy & Leadership
- Define and execute the organization’s data strategy aligned with business goals.
- Build and lead a high-performing data team (data engineers, analysts, scientists, governance specialists).
- Partner with executives and business units to identify opportunities for data-driven decision-making.
* Data Governance & Quality
- Establish policies for data governance, security, privacy, and compliance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Ensure data integrity, accessibility, and reliability across all systems.
- Define and enforce data standards, taxonomies, and metadata management.
* Data Engineering & Architecture
- Oversee the design and maintenance of scalable data platforms, pipelines, and architectures.
- Ensure seamless integration of data from multiple sources (internal and external).
- Evaluate and implement modern data technologies (e.g., cloud data warehouses, lakehouses, ETL tools).
* Analytics & Insights
- Enable advanced analytics, business intelligence, and AI/ML initiatives.
- Partner with business stakeholders to develop self-service analytics capabilities.
- Drive a data-driven culture across the organization through education and enablement.
* Vendor & Technology Management
- Select and manage relationships with key data platform vendors.
- Stay informed on emerging data technologies and trends to keep the organization ahead.
Requirements
* Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field (PhD a plus)
* 10+ years of experience in data management, analytics, or engineering
* At least 5 years in leadership roles
* Experience leading large teams (30+ FTE) and managing external resources
* Proven experience in building and scaling enterprise data platforms
* Familiarity with cloud data warehouses (e.g., Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks)
* Strong understanding of data governance, security, and compliance frameworks
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
* Ability to influence at all organizational levels
* Track record of hiring, mentoring, and retaining top data talent
* Experience working within data ecosystems
* Knowledge of data product management principles
* Hands-on coding experience in SQL, Python, or similar languages (even if not daily)
* Familiarity with modern data stack tools
* Examples: dbt, Airflow, Looker, Tableau, Power BI
* Fluency in Dutch
