Responsibilities
* Lead the development of a global end-to-end safety strategy and programs (occupational safety, process safety management, industrial hygiene, office & road safety, and dangerous goods & transportation safety) across operations and the value chain.
* Obtain alignment and buy‑in from functional and sector teams including commercial, supply chain, R&D, procurement, E&PS, finance, legal, and others.
* Develop and support implementation of annual technical plans to ensure compliance with health & safety regulations and J&J EHS&S standards, eliminate or control workplace risks, and prevent employee injuries and illnesses.
* Continuously collaborate with sector EHS teams, troubleshoot, adapt, and deploy safety solutions to ensure compliance, mitigate risks and create value across the breadth of businesses.
* Partner with sector EHS teams to integrate resource and budget needs into sector and functional financial planning processes.
* Establish enterprise governance processes and forums for stakeholder alignment, engagement, and oversight, providing visibility to performance across sectors.
* Lead a team of technical experts that engage with industry associations, trade organizations and standard‑setting bodies to benchmark and provide thought leadership.
* Define and develop J&J’s internal and external workplace safety policies, positions and standards.
* Partner with the digital team to implement data collection and analytics using AI solutions, driving continuous improvement and predictive injury prevention, and to design safety dashboards that track performance.
* Support health and safety focus audits as part of the safety management system.
* Collaborate with the EHS learning team on technical content for OOS and broader employee safety training and culture‑building programs.
* Build, lead and professionally develop direct and indirect reports (subject matter and technical experts). Shape and implement the organization’s talent agenda aligned with OOS and TO&R priorities, facilitating career development conversations and regular coaching.
* Create an inclusive work environment, communicate effectively at all levels, sectors, and geographies, and manage a high‑performing team in an agile sustainability landscape.
* Partner with the EHS learning team to develop training that continuously strengthens key EHS capabilities.
Qualifications
Required Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Advanced degree in management, EHS technical fields or regulatory affairs preferred.
Required Years of Related Experience: 15+ years of relevant business experience in implementing safety programs and at least 5+ years working in a global, corporate setting—preferably in healthcare, pharmaceuticals or medical devices.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* End‑to‑end business thinker and leader.
* Ability to guide and lead change without authority across a matrixed organization.
* Proven track record of building trust, partnerships, and influence across diverse stakeholder groups.
* Extensive experience leading high‑performance teams of technical experts and generalists, executing highly visible enterprise strategies from design through execution.
* Learning agility and natural curiosity.
* Financial acumen, including budget management and business case development.
