Role Overview
As a
Technical Designer – Secondary Systems
, you will play a pivotal role in designing and realizing electric installations and systems, including
protection, automation, and control systems
. You will collaborate closely with project engineers, technicians, experts, and occasionally external study offices.
You will join a team of about 15 colleagues where
knowledge sharing
is highly encouraged.
Key Responsibilities
Study Phase
* Adapt standard drawings based on project notes to achieve desired outcomes, considering Elia norms, standards, and integration into existing substations.
* Perform design work using
AutoCAD
and ensure quality control of studies.
* Collaborate with project engineers to resolve design issues.
* Distribute finalized drawings to relevant departments.
* Maintain close communication with internal and external stakeholders during cubicle construction to resolve issues promptly.
Construction Phase
* Liaise with contractors to address challenges during construction.
* Support technicians during commissioning to resolve technical issues.
* Provide on-site solutions for Secondary Systems problems in consultation with project leaders and technicians.
Traineeship Program
To support new starters, we offer a
6-month traineeship
:
* Initial weeks: Introduction to protection, automation, and control systems, plus small design exercises.
* Hands-on training through a fictitious project simulating real project steps.
* Site and supplier visits to understand the lifecycle of drawings and installations.
* Language-based grouping (Dutch or French) for optimal learning.
Goal:
Equip you to independently manage your first projects as a Technical Designer by the end of the traineeship.
* Next session starts in March 2026.
Requirements
* Qualification in a relevant technical field (e.g., electricity, electromechanics, automation, engineering).
* Interest in design activities; familiarity with
CAD software
(preferably AutoCAD) is a plus.
* Strong team player with excellent communication and customer-focused approach.
* Detail-oriented, accurate, and well-organized with strong planning skills.
* Motivated to develop expertise in your field.
* Good knowledge of
Dutch or French
and willingness to learn the other language.
