Lead PMO – Industrial / Defence ProjectsLocation: Herstal / Liège area, BelgiumContract type: Permanent preferred, freelance possible depending on profileSeniority: Senior / Lead levelSector: Industrial / DefenceLanguages: French required, technical English appreciatedAbout the roleWe are looking for a Lead PMO to support a major industrial project environment in the defence sector, based in the Herstal / Liège area.This role is not an IT PMO position and not a purely administrative PMO role. The objective is to structure, coordinate and strengthen PMO practices across complex industrial projects involving engineering, industrialization, CAPEX, production infrastructure, equipment, methods, planning, risks and operational execution.The ideal candidate will bring a strong industrial background and the ability to work closely with Project Managers, technical teams, industrial stakeholders and management to improve project governance, planning discipline, reporting quality and decision-making.Scope of the roleAs Lead PMO, you will be responsible for structuring and coordinating PMO activities across several industrial projects. You will support Project Managers, challenge project information, consolidate key indicators and help ensure that projects are delivered with the right level of visibility on planning, risks, resources, costs and priorities.You will act as a central point of reference for PMO methodology, project governance, planning follow-up and operational reporting.The role requires someone proactive, structured and diplomatic, able to collect information from multiple stakeholders, identify inconsistencies, anticipate risks and support decision-making at management level.Key responsibilitiesLead and coordinate PMO activities across industrial projects.Support Project Managers in project planning, follow-up, reporting and governance.Define, improve and harmonize PMO methods, tools, templates and reporting standards.Consolidate project dashboards, KPIs, action plans, risks, issues and decision points.Follow project planning, milestones, dependencies, resources and workload.Identify deviations, planning risks, inconsistencies and blocking points.Challenge project assumptions in a constructive and diplomatic way.Support prioritization between projects based on risks, resources and business impact.Contribute to portfolio visibility and management-level reporting.Ensure proper follow-up of project risks, opportunities, action plans and corrective actions.Help improve the maturity of project management practices across the organization.Train, support or coach Project Managers and PMO contributors when needed.Interface with technical, industrial, engineering, methods, production, finance and management teams.Profile requiredWe are looking for a senior PMO / Project Controls / Project Management profile with experience in industrial environments.The ideal candidate will have:Strong experience as Lead PMO, PMO Manager, PMO Officer senior, Project Controls Lead, Planning Lead, Project Manager or Program Manager in an industrial context.Previous experience in defence, aerospace, aeronautics, nuclear, energy, manufacturing, infrastructure, engineering, CAPEX or complex industrial projects.Good understanding of industrial project execution, engineering interfaces, production infrastructure, methods, equipment, automation or factory-related projects.Experience with project planning, project governance, risk management, reporting and stakeholder coordination.Ability to work with Project Managers and challenge planning, risks, costs, resources and project assumptions.Good knowledge of project management tools such as MS Project, Primavera P6, Planisware, Sciforma, Power BI, Excel or equivalent tools.Strong reporting and dashboarding skills.Experience in portfolio follow-up, capacity management or multi-project coordination is a strong plus.PMP, Prince2, IPMA, Lean Six Sigma or similar certifications are appreciated.Key skillsPMO leadershipProject governanceIndustrial project managementPlanning follow-upRisk and opportunity managementKPI and dashboard reportingCAPEX / OPEX project understandingResource and workload follow-upStakeholder coordinationProject performance monitoringContinuous improvementChange managementCommunication with senior stakeholdersWhat we are not looking forThis role is not focused on:IT PMO onlyBanking / finance / insurance PMOPure administrative project supportProduction planningSupply chain planningDemand planning / S&OPPurely software or digital project management without industrial exposureSoft skillsThe successful candidate should be:Structured and rigorousProactive and autonomousDiplomatic but able to challengeComfortable working with technical stakeholdersAble to collect information from busy Project ManagersClear in communication and reportingHands-on and solution-orientedComfortable in complex and confidential environmentsAble to bring visibility, rhythm and discipline to project executionLanguagesFrench is required for daily interaction with local teams and stakeholders.Technical English is appreciated.LocationThe role is based in the Herstal / Liège area, Belgium.Candidates should be able to work regularly on site or be based within a realistic commuting distance.ContractPermanent contract is preferred.Freelance profiles may also be considered depending on seniority, availability and budget alignment.Why join?This is an opportunity to contribute to strategic industrial projects in a sensitive and high-impact defence environment.
