Key areas of accountability/responsibility
Digitization and Automation
* Actively seeks out and identifies strategic opportunities where digitization and automation can deliver substantial advantages, focusing on not just cost savings, but also improvements in Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and overall operational efficiency.
* Collaborates with diverse teams from IT, Operational Technology (OT), Electrical/Instrumentation (E/I), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), as well as operations, maintenance, engineering, and Manufacturing Excellence to roll out innovative digitization and automation initiatives.
Advanced Process Control
* Aligns APC goals with overarching corporate objectives, developing thorough programs and best practices while continuously monitoring KPIs to boost both APC and economic performance in close collaboration with performance engineers from operations and the controlling team.
* Conducts comprehensive analyses of data gathered from various sources, including process variables, instrumentation metrics, and control systems, to pinpoint enhancement and optimization opportunities.
* Crafts both inferential linear and non-linear models designed to improve operational efficiency, optimize resource allocation, and ultimately reduce costs.
responsibilities include implementing advanced APC strategies, leading feasibility studies, and designing new business cases aimed at optimizing operations and maximizing yield.
* Conducts pilot studies to assess new APC technologies like machine learning and AI, with the aim of making significant contributions to yield improvement.
* Examines recurring issues within processes and systematically tackles bottlenecks in complex APC environments to enhance process performance while delivering considerable economic benefits.
* Provides subject matter expertise to operational facilities, including Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering teams, through consulting services, informative sessions, and actively engaging in both participation and leadership roles at technical exchanges and conferences.
* Facilitates significant technical sessions such as design reviews, model evaluations, and commissioning activities, ensuring all processes adhere to established standards and expectations.
* Regularly conducts assessments and evaluations to track the performance and effectiveness of real-time optimization solutions implemented across multiple systems.
* Works closely with optimization teams comprising Electrical/Instrumentation (E+I) engineers, DCS engineers, and IT/OT personnel to ensure that optimization needs are met and seamlessly integrated into all relevant projects.
* Leads pre-and post-performance evaluations for APC technologies to verify outcomes and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Authorities
* Authorized to initiate digitization and automation projects at Envalior Antwerp, ensuring they align with organizational objectives and standards.
* Empowered to provide unsolicited insights and strategic guidance to the Site Management Team, fostering a culture of innovation throughout the organization.
* Holds accountability for overseeing all developments relating to APC, automation, and digitization initiatives at Envalior Antwerp.
Complexity of the Position
* The advanced technological landscape of the plants in Antwerp is highly intricate; therefore, a solid understanding of operational processes is essential for effective communication and collaboration with operational teams.
* Demands a high level of expertise in Advanced Process Control, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and a range of digital tools that enhance operational capabilities.
* Demonstrates the ability to inspire and motivate personnel throughout the Antwerp organization to embrace and engage with innovative ideas, using persuasive communication and determination; skilled in forming and leading cross-functional project teams dedicated to digitization and automation initiatives.
Requirements
Knowledge and educational level
* Candidates should hold a PhD or a Master's degree in Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline, demonstrating a strong interest in digital transformation.
* Demonstrated proficiency in Advanced Process Control (APC) and control systems is required.
* Proven experience with programming languages such as DAX, M, PowerShell, and others; familiarity with Python and PI AF is an advantage.
* Comprehensive understanding of advanced APC methodologies including Model Predictive Control (MPC), Real-Time Optimization (RTO), and inferential modeling (soft sensors); experience with platforms such as Aspen, INCA, AVEVA, Seeq, or similar APC tools is preferred.
* Ability to efficiently manage large volumes of digital data in an organized manner.
* Solid grounding in statistics.
* Strong understanding of Information Technology (IT), Operational Technology (OT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Distributed Control Systems (DCS), among others.
* Familiarity with international standards and specifications pertaining to advanced process control.
* Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills in the area of advanced process control.
* Demonstrated leadership qualities to effectively guide technical discussions and lead technical teams.
* Experience with plant processes is essential.
* Able to perform effectively in high-pressure situations.
* English and Dutch is a must.
