Department Overview
The Datacom team ensures a reliable and fault-tolerant communication network. Responsibilities include:
* Management of fixed and satellite telephony
* Internet and WiFi connectivity
* Network security
* Telecommunication platforms supporting:
* Remote operation and monitoring of high-voltage substations
* Data collection
* Physical security
* Communication with partner companies
To strengthen the Data Transport Network Operations Center (NOC), we are hiring a Data Transmission Network Operator. The goal is to ensure smooth functioning of the datacom network, swift incident handling, and efficient planning of maintenance/repair activities.
Key Responsibilities
Front Desk Operator Role
Mailbox and Call Management:
* Handle incoming calls and emails
* Take actions on small requests; dispatch complex tasks
Supervision of Datacom Networks:
* Monitor and verify information/alarms from management systems and network nodes across technologies:
* PDH (NOKIA), SDH (NOKIA), PDH+SDH (Hitachi)
* DWDM (NOKIA), VOIP (Cisco), IP/MPLS (NOKIA)
* Substation LAN
Level 1 Incident Management:
* First-level troubleshooting and correlation of events
* Implement workaround solutions (e.g., rerouting PDH, SDH paths)
* Escalate to technicians or higher-level support if necessary
Configuration Changes / Standard Requests:
* Act as single point of contact for requests from other departments
* Implement changes such as switch port configuration
Planned Works Execution Support:
* Coordinate with dispatching center and monitor subcontractor activities
* Apply configuration changes if needed
* Restore network to original state after works
Back Office Role (Progressive)
Planning Support for Fiber Interventions:
* Collect and align planning inputs from internal departments and third-party providers
* Coordinate with customers, contractors, and suppliers
Work Preparation for Planned Works:
* Gather network information and perform impact analysis
* Identify redundancy mechanisms to minimize impact
* Validate impact analysis from other engineers
Level 2 Operations:
* Handle incidents escalated from Front Office
* Coordinate with technicians, vendors, and service providers
Project Management:
* Support infrastructure projects
* Act as project engineer or service delivery manager for datacom projects
* Lead network improvement initiatives
Organization, Information Management & Quality Control:
* Share knowledge via training, workshops, and documentation
* Maintain inventories and management systems up to date
* Participate in audits and propose improvements
Requirements
* Languages: Fluent in Dutch or French, with good knowledge of the other. Strong English required.
* Education/Experience:
* Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, ICT, or Telecommunications (or equivalent experience)
* Several years of experience in Helpdesk or Network Operations Support
* Technical Skills:
* Practical knowledge of LAN and WAN networks: PDH, SDH, DWDM, Ethernet, IP/MPLS, VOIP
* Personal Skills:
* Independent, methodical, responsible, risk-aware
* Customer-oriented, stress-resistant, flexible
* Strong communication skills, able to work in complex environments
