The coordinator is responsible for ensuring health and safety coordination during the execution phase, guaranteeing the application of general prevention principles, coordinating all companies present on site, and ensuring compliance with legal obligations.
The coordinator works in close collaboration with the Package Manager and the HSE Project Manager.
Main Responsibilities
Health & Safety Coordination – Execution Phase
* Ensure the implementation of general prevention principles during the planning and organization of the works.
* Coordinate technical and organizational aspects to guarantee safety during simultaneous or successive activities.
* Ensure that contractors consistently apply:
* general prevention principles,
* the requirements of the Safety & Health Plan,
* all measures applicable during the execution phase.
* Update or ensure updates to the Safety & Health Plan and the Post‐Intervention File according to project progress.
* Organize collaboration between contractors, subcontractors, and third parties to prevent accidents and occupational risks.
* Verify the correct application of work procedures and preventive measures.
Operational Tasks :
* Ensure that contractors comply with the HSE Project Plan requirements: applicable legislation, HSE organization, communication, reporting, training and certificates, PPE, permit‐to‐work, major risk mitigation, emergency procedures, etc.
* Participate in meetings: kick‐off, technical meetings, progress meetings.
* Review preparatory documents from contractors:
* HSE execution plans,
* training and competence records,
* permits to work,
* emergency response plans,
* incident and waste management procedures.
* Review and validate Method Statements and Risk Assessments before work begins.
* Prepare and monitor high‐risk activities.
* Conduct HSE inspections, audits, and site reviews.
* Inform stakeholders of any non‐compliant actions, behaviors, or omissions.
* Participate in incident / near‐miss analysis, define corrective actions, and follow up on their implementation.
* Identify and communicate best practices and lessons learned.
* Respond to requests from stakeholders.
* Perform a weekly site inspection or attend the site meeting and prepare the weekly H&S Coordination Report.
Required Profile
* Minimum 5 years of experience in HSE coordination on major projects.
* Safety & Health Coordinator Certificate – Level A (according to the Royal Decree of 25/01/2001).
* Technical Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent experience.
* Experience in EPCI (Engineering, Procurement, Construction & Installation) environments is an asset.
* Offshore or maritime experience is an asset.
* BOSIET or GWO certificates, or willingness to obtain them.
* Strong people‐management and communication skills.
* Structured, autonomous, precise, and results‐oriented working style.
* Team‐oriented mindset, proactivity, and strong prioritization skills.
Languages
* Fluent in Dutch and English (spoken and written).
* Ability to prepare reports in both languages.
Conditions & Flexibility
* Flexible engagement: workload varies depending on project phases (minimum 40% guaranteed).
* Frequent on‐site travel, including offshore trips for short periods (1–2 days).
* Occasional night or weekend work may be required during critical operations or emergencies.
* Compliance with travel and safety rules applicable to offshore projects.
