We are looking for a Head of Lab Animal Services who is passionate and innovative to join us in our Patient Solutions Group, based in Braine, Belgium.
About the role
The role involves oversight of Lab Animal Services and management of a small team. Candidates must possess a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and hold a Laboratory Animal Science Level C certification. Flexibility for on-call responsibilities during weekends and holidays to address after-hours emergencies is also required.
Who you’ll work with
Reporting to the Head of Patient Solutions Business Operations, you will have a small team of 5 to 6 direct reports.
What you’ll do
1. Acts as the responsible of the “Establishment user” as described in the Belgian Royal Decree.
2. Responsible of the global husbandry program.
3. In charge of the LAS facilities platform management, employees’ safety, investments, OPEX management.
4. Member ofthe Animal Welfare Body.
5. Accountable for the management of the veterinary pharmacy.
6. Participation and representation of UCB biopharma at national meetings.
7. Expert to provide guidance to the Research staff on regulatory matters: documentation, scoring, severity assessment.
8. Accountable for the software Ticketlab (management system for animals use).
9. Responsible of the AAALAC certification.
Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills.
10. Educated to MSc (or equivalent) with at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
11. Deep Experience in technical procedures and knowledge on Neuroscience models performed on rodent.
12. Deep knowledge of regulations and national standards relating to the care and use of animals in research.
13. Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills to communicate and coordinate between team members.
14. Fluent in English and French (spoken and written).
15. Ability to travel domestically and internationally as business necessitates.
