Rate: up to €1100/day
Language: Dutch required
We’re working with a large insurance client in Belgium that is scaling out its data platform and needs an experienced Databricks engineer to help drive the next phase. This is a hands-on role in an established data team, focused on building and optimising data pipelines in a modern Azure environment.
You’ll be joining a setup that’s already in motion — not a greenfield, but still plenty of room to shape how things are done going forward.
What you’ll be doing
* Designing and building data pipelines on Databricks (batch and streaming where relevant)
* Working closely with data architects and analysts to translate business needs into scalable data solutions
* Improving performance, cost efficiency, and reliability of existing pipelines
* Contributing to best practices around data engineering, testing, and deployment
* Supporting the wider team on topics like data modelling, orchestration, and governance
Tech stack (current)
* Azure Databricks
* PySpark / Python
* Azure Data Lake / Delta Lake
* Azure Data Factory (or similar orchestration tools)
* SQL
What they’re looking for
* Strong hands-on experience with Databricks in production environments
* Solid background in data engineering (5+ years is a good benchmark)
* Good understanding of data modelling and distributed data processing
* Experience working in Azure-based data platforms
* Ability to work independently and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Dutch speaking (day-to-day communication is largely in Dutch)
Practical details
* 12-month freelance contract (with extension likely)
* Start: flexible, but ideally within 4–6 weeks
* Mostly remote, with 1 day per week on-site in Brussels
* Competitive daily rate up to €1100, depending on experience
