DESIGN ENGINEER - ANTWERP (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Design Engineer with proven expertise in 3D CAD design to support the planning, development, and execution of complex industrial installation projects.
Unlike product design roles, this position focuses on large-scale engineering environments such as process plants, utilities, and manufacturing facilities, where precision, safety, and efficiency are critical.
In this role, you will take responsibility for creating and managing 3D models and 2D technical drawings that define how equipment, piping, structures, and supporting systems are designed and installed.
You will work at the intersection of engineering design and real-world construction, ensuring concepts can be translated into practical, buildable, and maintainable solutions.
Your work will involve site surveys, feasibility assessments, and coordination with multiple engineering disciplines including mechanical, electrical, civil, and process teams to produce integrated layouts that meet client and project requirements.
You will also liaise with suppliers and contractors to incorporate vendor data, ensure compliance with codes and standards, and proactively identify and resolve clashes or design challenges before construction begins.
From early project planning through to installation and commissioning, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions that enable the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of industrial facilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Create detailed 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings for industrial layouts, piping, steelwork, and equipment installations.
* Translate project requirements into practical design solutions that meet safety, operational, and maintenance needs.
* Carry out design reviews and clash detection to identify and resolve issues before construction.
* Prepare and maintain documentation packages including general arrangement drawings, fabrication details, isometrics, and bills of materials (BOM).
* Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies to validate designs against real-world conditions.
* Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations, and client specifications.
* Work closely with suppliers and contractors to integrate equipment and installation requirements into overall project designs.
* Provide technical support to project teams during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
Qualifications & Skills
* Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
* Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D, Inventor, SolidWorks, or Revit.
* Strong understanding of engineering drawings, tolerances, fabrication, and construction practices.
* Knowledge of industry standards (ASME, ISO, EN, API, or equivalent).
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
* Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
* Flexibility to travel to project sites when required.
The Offer:
* A permanent, full-time employment contract
* A salary & benefits package commensurate with experience
