Role Overview
As a Quality Assurance & Improvement Engineer, you are responsible for ensuring the highest standards of product quality, food safety, and regulatory compliance within a food and packaging manufacturing environment. You will maintain and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS), ensure compliance with BRC and food safety standards, and act as a key link between quality, production, and operations teams.
Key Responsibilities
Food Safety & Compliance (BRC)
* Ensure full compliance with BRC Global Standard for Food Safety and other relevant regulations
* Maintain and continuously improve HACCP plans and food safety procedures
* Lead and support internal, customer, and certification audits
* Monitor and manage non-conformities, ensuring root cause analysis and effective corrective/preventive actions (CAPA)
* Stay up to date with changes in food safety legislation and industry standards
Quality Management System (QMS)
* Maintain, review, and improve the Quality Management System in line with BRC and company standards
* Ensure documentation (procedures, work instructions, records) is accurate, up to date, and effectively implemented
* Track and report key quality KPIs (e.g., complaints, deviations, audit findings)
* Drive standardization and continuous improvement of quality processes
Continuous Improvement
* Identify improvement opportunities in production and quality processes
* Lead or support improvement projects focused on reducing waste, defects, and customer complaints
* Apply root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone) and continuous improvement methodologies
* Promote a “right first time” and continuous improvement culture across the site
Cross-functional Collaboration
* Act as the key quality contact for Production and Operations teams
* Translate quality and food safety requirements into practical actions on the shop floor
* Support production teams in troubleshooting quality issues and implementing solutions
* Collaborate with supply chain, maintenance, and customer service to ensure consistent product quality
Communication & Training
* Train and coach employees on quality standards, food safety, and best practices
* Communicate quality performance, risks, and improvement actions clearly to stakeholders
* Support a strong quality and food safety culture across the organization
Profile
* Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Engineering, or related field
* 3–5+ years of experience in quality assurance within the food and/or packaging industry
* Strong knowledge of BRC, HACCP, and food safety regulations
* Experience working in a manufacturing/production environment
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
* Effective communicator with the ability to influence cross-functional teams
* Hands-on, proactive, and detail-oriented mindset
