For a globally active customer in Brussels, we are searching for a freelance (Enterprise) Data Architect for a greenfield project setting up a regional IT department from scratch.
As data becomes a critical enabler for operational excellence, reporting, and decision-making, the customer is seeking an experienced Architect to define and structure its data landscape from day one.
You will be responsible for defining the enterprise data vision and roadmap. You will design a scalable and future-proof data architecture, including the development of a data warehouse, while establishing clear data governance, data classification, and ownership models.
Responsibilities
* Define and own the enterprise data architecture for a newly established regional IT organization
* Build a data roadmap covering the next 12–24 months, aligned with business and operational priorities
* Design the target architecture for a data warehouse and related data platforms
* Validate and establish data governance frameworks, including roles, responsibilities, and processes
* Define and implement data classification standards, ensuring compliance, security, and regulatory alignment
* Assess existing data sources and operational systems and integrate them into a coherent data model
* Support tooling selection and early implementation phases
* Create clear documentation, standards, and architectural principles for data management
Profile
* Proven experience as an Enterprise Data Architect or Senior Data Architect
* Strong experience in greenfield environments, setting up data architecture and governance from scratch is essential
* Hands-on experience designing and implementing data warehouses
* Solid knowledge of data governance, data classification, and data management frameworks
* Experience with modern data platforms, pipelines, and integration patterns
* Ability to operate strategically while remaining hands-on when needed
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
* Fluency in English, French and Dutch (all 3 required)
