EBA CLEARING is a provider of pan-European payment infrastructure solutions. Founded in 1998, the Company is owned by 48 of the major banks operating in Europe and based on a country- neutral governance model. The payment systems of EBA CLEARING are pan-European by design and desire: they are developed in close collaboration with the Company’s multinational user community and best-of-breed technology partners.
EBA CLEARING manages and operates the payment services EURO1, STEP1, STEP2-T and RT1. Both EURO1 and STEP2-Thave been classified as systemically important payment systems (SIPS) by the European Central Bank. The pan-European real-time payment platform RT1 went live in November 2017 and processes euro instant payments complying with the European Payments Council’s SEPA Instant Credit Transfer Scheme.
The Company offers an international, highly collaborative, dynamic and agile working culture, with partial remote working arrangements (depending on the functions) and opportunities to contribute to the shaping of payments in Europe.

The position
The Finance team is responsible for Accounting, Treasury, Financial Reporting and analytics, Budgeting & Forecasting and other Corporate Finance activities.
We are looking for a Head of Finance who will play an important role in managing the unit activities and managing the members of the Finance team.
This role is both strategic and operational, providing financial leadership, driving performance, ensuring sound financial control, and supporting long-term planning and investment decisions.
Your responsibilities will include the below activities for three entities (EBA CLEARING, Euro Banking Association and PRETA):
Financial Strategy & Leadership
* Develop and execute the company’s financial strategy in alignment with corporate goals
* Advise the CEO and senior leadership on financial performance, forecasts, tax and investment decisions
* Oversee the preparation, monitoring and update of the budget, forecasts and long-term business plans.
* Assess and evaluate financial performance of the organisation, with regard to long and short-term operational goals.
* Communicate, engage and interact effectively with the Board of Directors, the Audit and Finance Committee of the Board, the CEO, and other Senior Management members, as well as senior management and Board of the EBA and PRETA.
* Create virtuous circle between teams: e.g, provide timely analytical feedback to minimize the need for reclasses and corrections
* Foster the review, improvement, and implementation of updated policies, procedures and processes (in consultation with financial auditors as needed).
* Drive the team to find ways of working smarter by seeking efficiencies, updating processes or through tool enhancements.
* Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools and control systems, including management of relationship and contracts with all relevant providers
* Define and manage KPIs to measure the team’s performance and adherence to service levels, to identify areas for improvement and mitigate risks.
Financial Analysis, Budgeting and Forecasting
* Ensure timely, relevant and accurate financial reporting to the management of the Company, Board of directors, shareholders, Association Members and PRETA CEO.
* Run annual business planning process, and establish yearly financial objectives that align with the company's strategy as reflected in the business plan
* Review and analyse quarterly financial results and provide recommendations.
* Provide financial analysis and scrutiny of business initiatives and new service offerings.
Accounting, General Ledger, Administration and Operations
* Ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial (statutory) and management reporting data.
* Oversee financial audits, tax filings, and regulatory submissions
* Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all applicable local, and national tax returns.
* Serve as a key point of contact for external statutory financial auditors;
* Manage preparation and support of all financial audits.
* Oversee the preparation annual financial (statutory) statements.
* Oversee the quarter-end close process, ensuring a timely delivery.
* Review all closing activities including general ledger accounts, balance sheet accounts and overhead cost allocation.
* Oversee disciplined cash management, with active payables and receivables management, investment funding and safe investment of excess cash in line with Company policies
* Liaise with other external auditors, tax advisors, and regulators as required
Other
* Remain up to date on best practices as well as applicable laws regarding financial company operations
* Maintain strong internal control sand ensure compliance with applicable regulations and policies
* Provide strong financial partner for business units, suggesting up and downstream improvements, getting buy-in, and implementing agreed changes
* Act as businessowner for all financial applications and processes
* Mentor and develop a team of around 8 employees, managing work allocation, systems training, performance evaluations, and the building of an effective and efficient team dynamic
* Manage bank relationships, risks and assure value for money
* Manage agenda and reporting for internal Financial Steering Committee and Board Audit and Finance Committee
* Lead and develop a high-performing finance team with a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and collaboration
The profile
The successful candidate will have
* Master’s degree in finance, with additional certification in accountancy (e.g. CPA, DEC) or a minimum of at least 3 to 5 years of work experience in both accounting and financial planning and analysys.
* 12+ years total accounting and finance experience with progressive increase in responsibility
* 5+ years of experience as VP (or equivalent senior financial role)
* Extensive knowledge of European Banks, Associations and/or Market Infrastructures
* Fluency in English(minimum C1 level)and French (minimumB2 level)
* Excellent analytical, reasoning and problem-solving skills
* Significant experience working with external auditors
* Outstanding communication and presentation skills
* Demonstrated leadership ability, discretion and executive presence
* Ability to motivate staff and encourage Company values within the team and in their interaction with other units/external stakeholders
* Ability to multi-task, maintain calm, especially when faced with fluctuating priorities and deadlines
* Ability to work in international environment spread across multiple locations, being able to adapt communication to different cultures and backgrounds.
