Mantis Robotics is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead and grow our global engineering organization. This is a unique opportunity to combine executive leadership with hands-on technical impact at an early-stage company poised to transform an entire industry. This role is based at our R&D center in Belgium (Mantis Robotics BV), but has a global scope.
Responsibilities
* Define and execute the engineering vision and roadmap across robotics hardware and software
* Establish scalable processes and best practices for rapid, high-quality engineering development
* Collaborate with product, research, and operations to align priorities and deliverables
* Lead and scale a world-class engineering team; recruit, mentor, and retain top talent
* Represent engineering in executive, board, and customer discussions
Requirements
* Proven ability to lead and scale cross-disciplinary engineering teams in a fast-paced environment
* Strong background in robotics, automation, or complex hardware/software systems
* Track record of delivering safety-rated products from R&D to production
* Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and align teams
* Stay hands-on with system design, integration, debugging, and prototyping when needed
* Master’s/Ph.D. in Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or related field
* 10+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years in leadership roles
* Must be authorized to work in Belgium (EU citizens, BE permanent residents, etc)
Preferred
* Experience managing distributed/global engineering teams.
* Familiarity with robotics compliance, safety, and certification processes.
* Technical expertise in complex sensing systems, embedded software, or real-time manipulator control.
