Head of EU Affairs - APEAL
APEAL, the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging, is a federation representing the five major producers of steel for packaging in Europe, including thyssenkrupp Packaging Steel and U.S. Steel Košice. Founded in 1986, APEAL accounts for over 95% of the total European steel packaging production and employs more than 200,000 workers across Europe.
APEAL is actively engaged in EU policies related to steel packaging, waste management, recycling, and recovery. The organization monitors technical developments to ensure industry compliance with EU regulations and promotes the environmental, social, and economic benefits of steel for packaging.
Role & Requirements
We are seeking a Head of EU Affairs responsible for Public Affairs activities within APEAL. The role reports directly to the Secretary General and involves leading the Public Affairs Working Group, developing relationships with EU stakeholders, and representing APEAL in policy forums. The ideal candidate will have 7 to 10 years of experience in European affairs, with expertise in Circularity, Green Deal, Recycling, Packaging, and waste topics.
* Develop and maintain relationships with European institutions
* Create position papers and messaging for APEAL
* Build alliances with industry stakeholders
* Represent APEAL in policy discussions and forums
* Monitor and analyze relevant EU initiatives
* Develop advocacy strategies and action plans
* Support members in policy engagement
* Manage working groups and contribute to operational activities
Profile
* 7-10 years’ experience in European Affairs
* Experience with EU institutions is desirable
* Degree in European Studies, Economics, Law, or Political Science
* Understanding of EU policymaking processes
* Fluency in English; additional EU languages are a plus
* Knowledge of the European Green Deal and waste regulations
* Strong networking skills
* Team player with project management abilities
* Excellent communication skills, including drafting reports and position papers
* Proactive, autonomous, flexible, and interpersonal skills
* Willingness to travel within Europe
