The Department of Accountancy and Finance in the Faculty of Business and Economics has a full-time vacancy for Professor in the field of Accounting.
Position
You will contribute to the University of Antwerp’s three core tasks: education, research and services.
Responsibilities
* Education – Provide high-quality education in the Accounting domain. Teach in the Bachelor and Master programs of the Faculty of Business and Economics, and potentially in Antwerp Management School or other faculties. Courses may be taught in Dutch and English. Contribute to activating, student-centred and competence-driven programme components and study programmes. Supervise students and Master dissertations.
* Research – Initiate high-quality research in Accounting, develop new lines of research, and prepare project proposals for (inter)national funding. Coordinate progress of research projects. Publish in leading peer-reviewed journals. Develop and maintain an international scientific network. Supervise Master and PhD students.
* Services – Contribute to academic services within the Faculty, University and broader society (e.g., student recruitment, boards and committees). Progressively take on coordinating responsibilities in education, research and/or service provision, and contribute to department, faculty and university policies. Demonstrate a motivating leadership style with attention to growth and development of staff.
Profile / Qualifications
* PhD in applied economics, economics, accountancy or an equivalent domain.
* Research quality aligned with faculty and university policies; a strong publication record in leading peer-reviewed journals.
* Teaching competences aligned with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision; willingness to further develop teaching skills through professionalisation opportunities.
* If not fluent in Dutch, willingness to achieve CEFR B2 Dutch proficiency; the university offers integration support and language coaching.
* Ability to demonstrate CEFR C1 proficiency in the language of instruction when teaching as a course unit coordinator.
* Leadership potential and strong organizational skills; commitment to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation.
What we offer
* Full-time appointment as a member of the Senior Academic Staff (Dutch: Zelfstandig Academisch Personeel, ZAP). Appointment level (assistant professor, associate professor, professor, or full professor) based on experience and qualifications. Junior ZAP members typically start on a five-year tenure-track as assistant professor, with potential permanent appointment thereafter.
* Permanent appointment (tenure) after a maximum of three years for associate professor or higher, contingent on performance.
* Starter package upon positive PhD project evaluation: fully-funded four-year PhD project and €15,000 in operational funds to boost research at start of employment.
* Gross monthly salary according to Senior Academic Staff pay scales.
* Benefits include eco-cheques, internet-connectivity allowance, and either a bicycle allowance or reimbursement of public transport costs for commuting.
* Planned start date: September 15, 2026.
* Work primarily at City Campus - Prinsstraat 13, 2000 Antwerp, in a dynamic environment.
