ATEX Inspector – Tank Farm Project (Freelance)
Location: Ghent, Belgium
Contract: Freelance (12 Months+)
Workload: 80% Office / 20% Field
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced ATEX Inspector to support a major tank farm project in Ghent. The role focuses largely on office‑based ATEX documentation, diagram interpretation, compliance checks, and reporting, with periodic on‑site inspections.
You will work closely with project engineers, site teams, and HSE specialists to ensure all equipment and installations meet ATEX.
Key Responsibilities
Office‑Based (≈80%)
* Review and interpret ATEX drawings, zone classifications, and EX equipment diagrams.
* Validate documentation (EX registers, certificates, compliance files).
* Prepare inspection plans, checklists, and technical reports.
* Analyse modifications, non‑conformities, and propose corrective actions.
* Liaise with engineering teams and support design verification.
* Maintain and update ATEX documentation in line with project progress.
Field‑Based (≈20%)
* Conduct on‑site visual, close, and detailed ATEX inspections on tank farm equipment.
* Verify equipment identification, marking, certification, and installation quality.
* Inspect junction boxes, motors, cabling, lighting, instrumentation, and earthing systems in EX zones.
* Report findings, deviations, and corrective measures.
Required Skills & Experience
* Proven experience within ATEX environments
* Strong ability to read, interpret and validate ATEX drawings.
* Competent understanding of electrical installations in explosion‑risk zones.
* Strong reporting, documentation, and administrative accuracy.
* Ability to work independently in both office and field settings.
* Dutch or English proficiency
Nice to Have
* CompEx / IECEx CoPC or equivalent ATEX certification.
* Experience with digital inspection tools (EX tablets, EX reporting software).
* Knowledge of Belgian AREI/AREC electrical regulations.
* Background in electrical engineering or instrumentation.
* Experience working in tank farms, oil & gas, chemical, or hazardous‑area industrial environments.
