FREELANCE AI Conversational Designer

About the Role
In this role, you will play a key part in shaping and optimizing our conversational AI experiences – from chatbots to voice assistants – helping us improve customer journeys and accelerate the strategic adoption of AI within the organization.
You will work at the crossroads of technology, user experience, and language, creating seamless conversations that not only resolve customer needs but also strengthen engagement with our digital channels.
What You’ll Do
* Design & optimize conversational flows for chatbots and voice bots (CX focus, sales & after-sales journeys).
* Write and refine dialogue copy in English (Dutch or French is a plus), ensuring clarity, empathy, and brand consistency.
* Prototype & implement conversations using tools such as Dialogflow CX, Voiceflow, or equivalent.
* Collaborate with AI/NLP specialists to train and fine-tune bots for improved intent recognition and natural language understanding.
* Analyze & improve performance by monitoring logs, identifying gaps, and iterating on flows.
* Contribute to AI strategy: provide input on how conversational AI can improve processes, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
* Act as a bridge between tech and business teams, translating needs into user-friendly conversational solutions.
* Share expertise with colleagues through workshops, coaching, and best practices.
What We’re Looking For
* 3+ years of experience in conversational AI design, UX writing, or digital copywriting.
* Proven track record with conversational platforms (e.g., Google Dialogflow CX, Microsoft Azure AI, Voiceflow, Rasa).
* Strong editorial skills in English + French OR Dutch
* Understanding of NLP concepts and how they influence design (you don’t need to be a data scientist, but should know what’s possible/limitations).
* Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams (designers, product owners, developers, business stakeholders).
* Analytical mindset – comfortable using data to measure success and optimize flows.
* Customer-centric, creative, and pragmatic – balancing user experience with business goals.
Nice to Have
* Familiarity with voice design (IVR, Alexa, Google Assistant, or similar).
* Experience with Azure AI Services, Power Platform, Logic Apps, or automation tools.
* Ability to train or coach teams in conversational design best practices.
