Job Description
Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) work with internal and external customers as field-based scientific and clinical experts who strategically support dissemination of medical scientific information. MSLs function as a regional medical contact between the organization and key external customers to further scientific exchange. This role provides product and field scientific support to Medical Affairs, Sales, Marketing, and Managed Markets by utilizing academic credentials, clinical knowledge, and scientific expertise in infection prevention to communicate with healthcare providers, academic researchers, and organizations. These relationships ensure that key opinion leaders and organizations have access to relevant scientific information, and that insights gathered externally will be communicated to key cross‑functional partners internally. The MSL should have an in-depth understanding of surgical setting, disease state awareness, the current/future treatment landscape, and ongoing clinical trials/research.
Job Responsibilities
* Establish and maintain credible peer‑to‑peer scientific relationships with national key opinion leaders (KOLs), Healthcare professionals (HCPs), and other stakeholders in the surgical field.
* Work closely with internal teams, including medical affairs, marketing, sales, regulatory affairs, and R&D, to provide scientific insights and support strategic initiatives.
* Develop and deliver scientific presentations to healthcare professionals, clinical investigators, and internal teams.
* Participate in the development and review of marketing and educational materials to ensure scientific accuracy and compliance.
* Serve as the primary resource for clinical and scientific information to external HCPs and surgeons.
* Interact with various customer segments via one‑on‑one interactions, small group discussions, formulary review committees, and educational symposium presentations.
* Attend assigned scientific and medical congresses to capture information relevant to the organization’s scientific platforms and report this information to internal stakeholders during debrief meetings.
* Assist in facilitating KOL (Key Opinion Leader) involvement in national, and local educational forums including advisory boards, investigator meetings, educational symposia, and sponsored promotional programs.
* Maintain a thorough and detailed working knowledge of the organization and its products, current scientific research, and publications.
* Additional duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
* Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree (MPH, MBA, MSN) preferred. Advanced degree (PhD, MD, Nurse, PharmD or equivalent) in a relevant scientific or clinical discipline a plus.
* Desireble 3-5 years of field based MSL experience and/or 3-5 years of work experience in the medical device industry, with some surgery specific medical device experience.
* Strong knowledge of plastic and reconstructive surgical procedures, techniques, and the medical device industry in this space.
* Clinical experience is desired and reconstructive and aesthetical surgery pace.
* Understanding of real‑world evidence (RWE) and health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
* Ability to interpret complicated clinical and pre‑clinical data.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills, with demonstratable ability to convey complex scientific information to a variety of audiences.
* Knowledge of the Brazil Healthcare System and the pharmaceutical/medical device industry, including relevant laws (Anvisa), regulations (FDA), and ethical standards (ACCME, PhRMA) which apply to interactions with HCPs, payers, and industry representatives.
* Ability to identify and analyze unmet medical, educational, and research needs within the medical community.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
* Knowledge of clinical trial design and process.
* Understands the Brazil healthcare system, medical practice, and clinical decision making regarding intraoperative care for the patient undergoing surgery.
* Demonstrates ability to develop trust and integrity with peers, and others within the Brazil BD Medical Affairs and Commercial organizations.
* Travel: 75% travel, including overnight.
