Ph3Position /h3 pResearcher – Forest Ecology and Management, KU Leuven, Department of Bioscience Engineering. /p h3Overview /h3 pYou will establish an international‑level research program focused on developing quantitative solutions for the monitoring, conservation, and multifunctional management of forests. The program will address the optimization of ecosystem services such as climate regulation, wood production and biodiversity by creating engineering solutions tailored to challenges like climate and land use changes, societal and economic needs. /p h3Responsibilities /h3 ul liBuild a research group and develop national and international partnerships, including collaboration within the Division Forest, Nature, and Landscape on topics such as urban forestry, ecosystem restoration, digital twins, and biodiversity conservation. /li liObtain competitive funding to support PhDs and research activities, generate high‑quality publications, and achieve widespread recognition. /li liEnsure the valorisation of research findings to support policy making regarding forest ecosystems at the Flemish and European level. /li liProvide high‑quality education to Bachelor’s and Master’s students in the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, teaching courses such as ‘Forestry’, ‘Forest management’ and various field courses. /li liSupervise student projects, including bachelor’s and master’s theses, and act as promoter of PhD students. /li liEngage in scientific, societal and internal service activities, such as serving on the departmental council and promoting KU Leuven to prospective students and the wider professional field. /li /ul h3Qualifications /h3 ul liPhD in Bioscience Engineering, Forestry, Ecology or a related discipline. /li liMinimum 3 years of scientific research experience following the date of obtaining the doctorate. /li liDemonstrable excellence and productivity in forest ecology and management research, with thorough field knowledge of temperate forests. /li liStrong research profile evidenced by publications in prominent international journals and international research experience. /li liA demonstrable network in relevant forest‑related research; experience with policy‑supporting activities is a strength. /li liStrong organizational skills and the ability to foster a collaborative, collegial environment; leadership capacities within a university context. /li liDemonstrable qualities for academic education; teaching experience is valued and supported. /li liClear vision for delivering high‑quality academic education in the field and dedication to the educational mission of the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering. /li liProficiency in English; Dutch language training will be provided if necessary. /li liCommitment to diversity and excellence in the academic community. /li /ul h3Offer and Support /h3 pFull‑time employment with a tenure‑track assistant professor position for five years, leading to a permanent appointment upon positive evaluation.
