The Methods Engineer is responsible for designing, documenting, and optimizing manufacturing methods and processes to ensure efficient, safe, and cost-effective production. This role collaborates with Design, Quality, Production, Procurement, and IT to industrialize products, develop routings and work instructions, establish standard times, and drive continuous improvement across the production process.
Key Responsibilities
* Industrialize new products: define manufacturing routes, select processes and equipment, determine tooling and automation needs, and plan the production flow.
* Develop and maintain documentation: create and update routings, bills of process (BOP), standard times, work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and process specifications.
* Time study and standardization: conduct time measurements, establish standard cycle times, and maintain time standards to ensure accurate costings and capacity planning.
* Layout and workflow optimization: design and optimize workstation layouts, material flow, line balancing, and capacity planning to reduce waste and improve throughput.
* Change management and documentation: implement changes to processes and ensure all documentation, specs, and CAD/PLM/ERP data reflect the latest methods.
* Collaboration with design and quality: participate in design for manufacturability (DFM/ DFA) reviews and support design changes with manufacturing impact assessments.
* Lean and continuous improvement: apply Lean tools (5S, SMED, VSM, Kaizen, standard work) to reduce setup times, cycle times, and non-value-added activities.
* Production support: support pilots and ramp-ups, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, and implement robust containment and containment SOPs.
* Compliance and safety: ensure processes meet applicable safety, quality, and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, GMP, or sector-specific requirements).
* Training and knowledge transfer: train operators and team members on new methods, procedures, and best practices.
* KPI ownership: monitor and report on key manufacturing metrics (cycle time, throughput, First Pass Yield, scrap rate, cost per unit, on-time manufacturing).
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
* 3+ years of hands-on experience in manufacturing engineering or industrialization
* Strong knowledge of time studies, work measurement, standard times, and methods development.
* Experience with process documentation and change control.
* Proficiency with Lean manufacturing methodologies (5S, SMED, VSM, Kaizen, standard work).
* Proficiency in CAD/CAE tools and the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings; experience with ERP/PLM systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill...).
* Familiarity with data analysis and problem-solving methods (Root Cause Analysis, A3, 8D, DOE).
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work cross-functionally.
* Proactive, structured, and detail-oriented with good project management abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in Automotive, electronics, pharmaceuticals.
* Knowledge of automation, electrical or mechanical integration, and basic scripting for data analysis.
* Experience with process simulation or line balancing software.
* Knowledge of safety and quality standards applicable to the sector (e.g., ISO 9001, IATF 16949, GMP, HACCP).
Skills and Competencies
* Analytical thinking and data-driven decision making
* Problem solving and continuous improvement mindset
* Project management and organizational skills
* Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills
