Description de l'offre

The Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Laboratory is seeking an assistant scientist with an emphasis on optical methods such as ultrafast transient absorption, time-dependent optical microscopy, and static spectroscopies of nanomaterials that include, for example, Raman and fluorescence spectroscopies. Candidates sought include those with a nanoscience research focus in areas such as charge or energy transfer, single chromophores, and/or quantum materials.

The candidate will be responsible in roughly equal measure both for self-directed, collaborative research science as well as support of CNM users. Staff-led science goals include contributing to and supporting a world-leading experimental program based on harnessing the capabilities of available ultrafast laser spectroscopies and optical microscopies in the ultraviolet through near-infrared spectral range studies. Research that aligns with and supports CNM's strategic scientific directions is preferred and capitalizing on methodologies that are available across CNM and Argonne are also encouraged. User support involves providing scientific and technical aid to internal and external researchers to advance their efforts and grow capabilities of value to CNM users and staff. The prospective scientist will carry out basic research and enable discoveries by engaging the external user community through collaborative research.

CNM is a DOE Office of Science user facility that provides researchers from across the globe with world-class expertise and instrumentation for multidisciplinary nanoscience and nanotechnology research. All research and tools are designed to support cutting-edge staff and user science.

Key Responsibilities:

* Develop and lead an experimental program utilizing laser spectroscopy and microscopy techniques
* Provide scientific and technical support for user experiments, ensuring successful execution and development of user-led research projects
* Collaborate with internal and external researchers to drive innovation and discoveries in nanoscience and nanotechnology
* Contribute to the advancement of CNM's strategic scientific directions through pioneering research and development

Position Requirements

* Ph.D. in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field
* Experience with optical spectroscopies and microscopies
* Experience with optical measurements such as Raman and infrared absorption spectroscopy
* Track record of publication of results
* Strong ability to collaborate with a vibrant research community and provide scientific guidance
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment
* Ability to model Argonne's core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork

Complete applications must include

* A cover letter that details the candidate's experience, expertise, and research interests and how they will contribute to success in this position
* Detailed curriculum vitae including a list of publications
* Names and email addresses of three professional references
