Your role
In the role of GCP Infrastructure Architect / Senior GCP Infrastructure Architect, you will interface with key stakeholders and apply your technical proficiency across the full infrastructure lifecycle on Google Cloud Platform. A core focus of this role is supporting our client’s VMware exit programme, where you will contribute to migration planning, wave execution, and target-state infrastructure design on GCP. You will create architecture and high-level design artefacts, conduct technical feasibility assessments, and guide the team technically while working closely with offshore engineers as the communication bridge between client and delivery teams. Required
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
- 10+ years of overall IT experience with a minimum of 5 years in GCP infrastructure architecture and implementation
- Hands-on experience in at least one large-scale cloud migration programme, preferably involving VMware workload migration to GCP
GCP Infrastructure Architecture
- Deep expertise in GCP landing zone design: Resource Hierarchy, Shared VPC, Org Policies, IAM, and folder/project governance
- Strong proficiency in GCP compute services including Compute Engine, Managed Instance Groups, and custom machine type sizing
- Expertise in GCP networking: Cloud Interconnect (Dedicated & Partner), NCC, Cloud VPN, Shared VPC, Cloud NAT, Cloud DNS, and Private Service Connect
- Solid experience with GCP storage services: Persistent Disk, Firestore, Cloud Storage, and appropriate tiering strategies
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform for GCP, including modular design, remote state, and pipeline integration
- Strong knowledge of GCP security controls: VPC Service Controls, Cloud Armor, Security Command Center, IAM best practices, and CMEK
- Experience designing hybrid connectivity architectures bridging on-premises environments with GCP
- Ability to create and present HLDs, LLDs, and architecture decision records (ADRs) to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Active Google Professional Cloud Architect certification (mandatory)
Migration & VMware Exit
- Practical understanding of the end-to-end migration lifecycle: Discovery, Assessment, Wave Planning, Execution, Cutover, and Hyper-care
- Ability to assess VMware workloads and define appropriate migration patterns: Rehost, Replatform, Refactor, or Retire
- Experience with wave planning: workload grouping, dependency mapping, sequencing, and cutover scheduling
- Familiarity with migration tooling such as Google Migrate to Virtual Machines, AI Tools, or equivalent platforms
- Capable of producing migration artefacts including Wave Plans, Cutover Runbooks, and Go/No-Go criteria
Preferred
- Additional GCP certifications such as Professional Cloud Network Engineer or Professional Cloud Security Engineer
- Exposure to discovery and inventory tools such as RVTools, Cloudamize, Migration Center for VMware workload assessment
- Familiarity with GCP Backup and DR services and post-migration resilience design
- Exposure to Google Cloud VM Migrate tool
- Experience with FinOps practices: TCO modelling for VMware exit business cases, committed use discounts, and right-sizing
- Knowledge of cloud observability post-migration using Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, and Cloud Trace
- Prior experience in regulated industries (financial services, healthcare, public sector) with related compliance requirements
- Strong scripting skills in Python, Bash, Terraform or Go for infrastructure automation
- Prior experience working in Agile or Scaled Agile delivery models within large programs
