Assignment The Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Ghent University has a vacancy for a full‑time tenure‑track position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Accounting, Corporate Finance and Taxation, in the field of Financial Accounting and Auditing. This concerns a five‑year temporary appointment within the tenure‑track system. After this period of five years, and following a positive evaluation, the appointment will result in a permanent position at the rank of Associate Professor.

The starting date for the position is

01 September 2026 .

Academic education You deliver high‑quality education in the fields of Auditing and Financial Accounting.

You teach various courses in the field of Auditing within the Master of Business Economics, specializing in Accounting, such as Audit and International Auditing Standards. This is an English‑language master’s program.

You also teach a course in Financial Accounting in the first‑year Bachelor of Business Administration – to a large group of students – such as Corporate Accountancy. This is a Dutch‑language program, and the course requires expertise in Belgian accounting standards (Belgian GAAP).

The specific teaching assignment is subject to change and may evolve depending on potential program modifications within the faculty and the teaching needs of the department.

You will also actively contribute to teaching innovations within the faculty.

Academic research You conduct innovative and internationally recognized research and are open to collaboration with other members of the department.

The research area is situated in the field of Financial Accounting and/or Auditing, and is preferably complementary, yet sufficiently aligned with the research currently conducted within the department.

You are expected to publish in leading international peer‑reviewed journals, in accordance with Ghent University’s publication policy.

You will initiate new research lines and develop project proposals to obtain research funding.

You will build and maintain an international academic network.

You will supervise master’s and doctoral students in their theses, providing guidance in a motivating and coaching manner. In doing so, you pay attention to the growth and development of your students and collaborators.

Institutional and societal engagement Based on your expertise and experience, you will actively contribute to the operations of the department, faculty, and university, and/or engage with external assignments involving academic and societal service, such as collaboration with the audit professional body.

Profile

You have a strong academic CV with international visibility in the requested field.

Your achievements in the field of research and education contribute to the development of the scientific domain (e.g. publications, presentations, or other academic output).

You are capable to initiate and supervise educational and research projects and to acquire the necessary funding for this.

You are didactically skilled to teach university students to develop academic competences.

Mobility is recommended (e.g. education, research, economic, or societal).

Positive teaching evaluations, based on teaching to university students is recommended.

Continuous professional development in teaching is recommended.

You work in a collaborative way and integrate smoothly into the department/faculty. You look for opportunities inside and outside the university and actively use your network to do so.

When taking on a teaching assignment, you must know the language of instruction of the course (the teaching assignment includes both courses taught in Dutch and English). You are required to have proficiency in the language of instruction at level C1. This proficiency can be demonstrated by means of a language certificate or a diploma obtained at an institution where that language is the medium of instruction.

You are quality‑oriented.

You attach great importance to ethical and responsible conduct.

You show initiative.

You are team‑oriented and possess the necessary skills to work effectively in a team.

You are capable of providing leadership and supervising doctoral research.

Appointment information We offer you a temporary appointment in a tenure‑track system for a term of five years. If positively evaluated by the University Board, the term of office will be transferred into a permanent appointment as an associate professor.

Should you already be a member of the professorial staff or hold an equal post at a university or research institution, you can immediately be appointed as an assistant professor, without prejudice to the possibility of a temporary appointment.

A selection interview in which the vision and planning regarding education, research, and institutional and societal engagement as well as the embedding in the bigger picture are discussed.

A written statement outlining your vision on education and research.

A trial lesson on a subject in the relevant field.

A screening of leadership and interpersonal skills.

Admission requirements

You hold a thesis‑based doctorate or a diploma or certificate that is recognized as equivalent.

You have at least two years of postdoctoral experience on 1 September 2026. This term of two years is determined by the date mentioned on the required diploma.

Your application meets the formal requirements (submitted on time, complete: with a completed application form and a copy of the diploma, delivered via e‑recruitment).
