Executive Director – Insurance Technology & Digital Transformation Belgium (Hybrid – Brussels / Antwerp / Ghent)
We are seeking an Executive Director – Insurance Technology & Digital Transformation to lead large-scale technology modernisation and digital change initiatives within a major insurance organisation in Belgium.
This senior leadership role will focus on transforming core insurance platforms, modernising business processes, and delivering innovative digital capabilities across underwriting, policy administration, claims, and customer servicing. Working closely with executive leadership and business stakeholders, the successful candidate will define and deliver strategic transformation programmes that strengthen operational performance, enable data-driven decision making, and enhance the customer experience.
The role requires extensive experience delivering complex transformation programmes within the insurance sector, alongside strong leadership capabilities and the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams through large-scale change.
Responsibilities:
Technology & Digital Transformation Strategy
Define and lead the long-term technology and digital transformation strategy for core insurance platforms and supporting systems.
Drive modernisation of legacy insurance applications and support the adoption of scalable, cloud-enabled technology environments.
Identify opportunities to leverage emerging technologies including data analytics, automation, and artificial intelligence to improve operational efficiency and customer engagement.
Core Insurance Platform Transformation
Oversee the transformation and optimisation of core insurance systems across policy administration, claims management, and billing functions.
Ensure effective integration of core platforms with digital channels, customer portals, data platforms, and third-party systems.
Lead system modernisation initiatives that improve operational resilience, scalability, and performance.
Programme & Delivery Leadership
Lead large, multi-year transformation programmes across technology and business functions.
Manage complex delivery environments involving internal teams, system integrators, and consulting partners.
Establish governance frameworks to ensure successful programme execution, risk management, and financial oversight.
Business & Stakeholder Engagement
Partner with executive leadership, business unit heads, and operational teams to ensure technology initiatives align with business objectives.
Translate strategic goals into actionable transformation roadmaps and delivery plans.
Provide executive-level reporting on programme progress, performance metrics, and transformation outcomes.
Leadership & Organisational Development
Build and lead high-performing technology and transformation teams including architects, programme managers, and digital specialists.
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement across technology and business teams.
Support the development of internal leadership capabilities across digital transformation initiatives.
Required Experience
Significant leadership experience within insurance technology or digital transformation.
Proven track record delivering large-scale technology modernisation programmes within insurance or financial services.
Deep understanding of core insurance operations, including underwriting, policy administration, claims processing, and billing.
Experience leading complex transformation initiatives involving multiple stakeholders and third-party delivery partners.
Strong understanding of modern enterprise technology architectures including cloud, APIs, and data platforms.
Preferred Experience
Experience working within European or international insurance organisations.
Familiarity with regulatory environments affecting insurers within the EU.
Experience delivering enterprise transformation across multi-country operations.
Leadership Experience
Strategic and forward-thinking transformation leader.
Strong executive presence and stakeholder management capabilities.
Ability to balance long-term strategy with operational delivery.
Passion for driving innovation and modernising insurance platforms.
Location
This role is based in Belgium with a hybrid working model, combining time in the office with remote working. Occasional travel within Europe may be required.
