Lieu : Herstal, BelgiumMISSIONThales Belgium (Herstal site) is a world leader in precision-guided rocket systems for helicopters and jet aircraft, and a key player in engineering activities related to these products. To support its ambitious production and product development roadmap, Thales is expanding its team and is looking for a RAMST/SDF Engineer. The RAMST Engineer role at Thales focuses on the technical management of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety, and Testability (RAMST) aspects throughout the engineering projects. As a RAMST Engineer, you will be responsible for defining, implementing, and monitoring RAMST requirements across the product lifecycle. You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure that solutions meet the highest standards of safety and reliability.Your responsibilities will include conducting risk and reliability analyses, contributing to the development of safety architectures, and managing RAMST-related activities within the constraints of project schedules and budgets. You will collaborate with the Product Design Authority, who holds technical responsibility for the selected solutions and their implementation. Our engineering department is rapidly growing, and we seek a candidate who can manage significant technical challenges, focusing on innovative projects in guided rocket systems. The RAMST Engineer role is strategic to our business and offers strong opportunities for professional growthRESPONSIBILITYDefine and manage RAMST (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety and Testability) requirements and activities across products and system integrations.Conduct reliability and safety analyses, including FMEA/FMECA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Reliability Block Diagrams (RBD), and maintainability assessments (e.g., identification of Line Replaceable Units, fault detection and isolation strategies).Perform Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA) and Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), particularly for pyrotechnic and explosive subsystems.Contribute to the development of safety cases, risk registers, and technical documentation for both internal stakeholders and external authorities/customers.Support the definition and validation of safety architectures, incorporating redundancy, fail-safe mechanisms, interlocks, and arming/disarming logic.Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, particularly in defense and aerospace sectors (e.g., MIL-HDBK-217, IEC 61508, MIL-STD-882E, ISO 9001, NATO STANAGs related to munitions and weapon systems).Participate in system design reviews, providing early-phase input to optimize RAMST performance and reduce lifecycle risk.Assess system availability under real-world operational conditions, including mission duration, reload cycles, and field maintenance constraints.Contribute to obsolescence management and perform impact analyses on RAM-related parameters throughout the system lifecycle.Act as the RAMST subject matter expert (SME) and primary point of contact for the product line or business unit.Prepare and maintain RAMST deliverables, including requirement specifications, analysis reports, safety documentation, and certification materials.Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams—including mechanical, embedded HW/SW, electronics, systems, IVVQ, and the Product Technical Authority—to ensure technical consistency and compliance across the development lifecycleAct as the interface with the Group and Business Line to communicate and implement the RAMST strategy across programs and productsPROFILEMaster's Degree in Systems Engineering / Safety Engineering / Embedded Engineering (or equivalent)5 years of relevant experience as a results-driven RAMST (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety, and Testability) / SDF (Sûreté de Fonctionnement) Engineer, with a strong background in systems engineering for complex, safety-critical systemsSkilled in defining and deploying RAMST strategies from concept through to validation, ensuring full compliance with industry standards (e.g. MIL-HDBK-217, MIL-STD-882E, IEC 61508, ARP4754A, STANAGs).Proven ability to perform reliability and safety analyses, lead hazard identification processes, contribute to robust safety architectures, and act as a key interface across multidisciplinary engineering teams.Experienced in defense, aerospace, or high-tech sectors, with a deep understanding of lifecycle risks, system architecture constraints, and operational readiness.Strong systems thinking with the ability to maintain a clear vision and navigate complex engineering environments. You are enthusiastic, dynamic and have excellent communication skills.Results-driven and cost-aware, consistently taking initiative to drive progress and deliver value.Known for a "can-do" and "why-not" attitude, always seeking creative and pragmatic solutions to technical challenges.Demonstrated ability to empower and support engineering teams in integrating RAMST principles across disciplines and development phases.Positive and collaborative mindset — focused on continuous improvement within the team, rather than pointing out flaws in others.Proficiency with tools: Jira, Polarion, Capella, Windchill, SysML/UML, RAM Commander, Relex, IsographFluent in French, English; knowledge of German or Dutch is a plus
