On behalf of an international materials technology company with its main R&D operations in Belgium, we are currently actively recruiting for an R&D profile specialising in Acoustics to join their innovation team.
This role sits within the company’s Sustainable Innovation / R&D department and focuses on developing advanced acoustic solutions that are destined to automotive manufacturing applications.
The position combines acoustic theory, modelling, and hands-on experimental work, including full-scale application testing in advanced acoustic facilities.
The Role
As R&D Engineer – Acoustics, you will lead acoustic development projects within the company’s R&D portfolio and contribute to the creation of innovative noise and vibration solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
* Leading acoustic R&D projects for both internal innovation initiatives and customer-driven developments
* Developing new acoustic concepts and solutions based on polyurethane foams and other porous or non-porous materials
* Designing multi-material acoustic systems (e.g., mass–spring structures) to optimise sound absorption and insulation
* Developing and validating test methodologies to evaluate acoustic performance at both material level and application level
* Performing acoustic measurements and data analysis using specialised acquisition systems
* Applying Design of Experiments (DoE), statistical analysis, simulation and modelling to improve acoustic performance
* Supporting commercial teams by acting as a technical bridge between R&D and customers
* Collaborating with R&D colleagues, product management, suppliers and external acoustic test institutes
* Contributing to application testing, including large-scale testing of equipment such as compressors or generators in acoustic chambers
Profile
We are looking for an engineer with strong practical expertise in acoustics and a hands-on, solution-oriented mindset.
Education
* Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustics or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience
* Strong practical experience in acoustics and acoustic testing
* Experience with airborne and impact sound measurements
* Knowledge of porous materials and their acoustic behaviour
* Experience with acoustic acquisition software and measurement systems
* Experience with simulation, modelling, statistical analysis and design of experiments
Industry background
Experience in one of the following sectors would be highly relevant:
* Automotive / mobility
* HVAC systems
* Compressors or gensets
* Industrial equipment
* Acoustic materials or insulation systems
