🟢 Role context.
We are actively looking for a Project Development and Site Operations Manager to join our Project Development & Site Operations team. This team is responsible for delivering battery storage projects, once contracts are signed from permitting and grid connection requests to the engineering, construction, and operational readiness of each site. After the go live, this team ensures O& M of the managed BESS assets and monitors the technical performance.
A key part of these projects is ensuring that each battery system can be controlled and operated reliably. Bnewable operates a cloud-based optimization platform “Voltana” that forecasts market opportunities, trades flexibility, and sends control setpoints to battery sites.
On the site itself, local control systems ensure that these signals are executed safely while respecting electrical constraints and site limits.
To enable this, each site requires proper telemetry, networking, and a local control system (PLC/EMS) that connects the battery installation with the cloud platform. This role focuses on engineering, deploying, and improving these control and monitoring systems, while also supporting the broader delivery of battery storage projects.
🟢 Your responsibility.
Site Control & System Integration
* Design and implement the local control architecture for new battery sites.
* Coordinate the configuration and deployment of PLC-based energy management systems used to safely execute cloud control signals. (in cooperation with partners).
* Ensure correct measurement points, telemetry, and communication links between the battery system, the local controller, and Bnewable’s cloud platform.
* Support commissioning and testing to ensure the system operates reliably and respects site constraints.
Monitoring & Operational Infrastructure
* Lead a project to capture & display operational battery data to generate alerts and monitor system states, temperatures, and cell voltages.
* Help establish processes that ensure all assets remain continuously operational and optimally controlled.
Voltana Integration Projects
* Support deployments where Bnewable controls third-party battery systems through its Voltana platform.
* Cooperate with the platform development team to integrate new local energy management systems & gateway solutions.
* Contribute to defining a scalable integration solution that can be deployed across multiple projects.
Operations & Maintenance Support
* Monitor operational performance of battery sites.
* Identify issues and coordinate with O&M providers when intervention is required.
* Ensure systems remain reliable and available for market participation.
Standardization & Engineering Improvements with regards to LEMS
* Help standardize the engineering approach for site control systems and integrations.
* Improve the reliability and scalability of how battery sites are deployed and operated.
* Contribute to building solutions that allow Bnewable to deploy projects efficiently and at scale.
Project Delivery Support
* Support the engineering and delivery of new battery storage projects together with the project development team.
* In a later stage when the LEMS is a standardised and stable solution, the role will standard evolve towards BESS project management within the same team. You will then:
* manage the project cycle from start to finish with a strong focus on technical feasibility and implementation and ensuring the highest quality and reliability standards.
* run several projects in parallel that are in different development stages.
* lead the design for the integration of battery energy storage systems for a seamless installation of the Bnewable proposition within the customer site.
* challenge and work both during the design and building phase (including site visits) with electrical / EPC contractors on the required electrical equipment including battery modules, inverters, transformers, mid / low voltage panels and protection systems.
* act as the primary technical contact for project-related technical studies, collaborating with DSO and TSO on orientation and detailed studies.
* gather and bundle the required data for permitting purposes. Submit and follow up of the permit application with external consultants.
* check and finalize quotes for hardware procurement. Follow up on delivery times.

🟢 Your profile.
To be successful in this role, you'll need to:
* have a strong background (degree or work experience) in electrical engineering. Work experience in the energy industry is a plus, however, we also welcome candidates without prior work experience or recent graduates.
* demonstrating proficiency in working with single-line diagrams and the ability to swiftly analyse the electrical configuration of an industrial site. You are able to quickly identify opportunities and troubleshoot the hurdles during the different project phases.
* strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
* be a great communicator, possess interpersonal skills, and can motivate people.
* being first point of contact of external stakeholders regarding the battery project does not scare you.
* you like to go on site when necessary during design and development of the battery project. You have a driver's licence.
* native fluency in Dutch and/or French and work proficiency in English, both oral and written.
* nice to have: Working knowledge of communication and network protocols (e.g. Modbus TCP/IP)
* have a good dose of common sense and a focus on delivering results and meeting deadlines. You get things done.
