R&D AI Engineer
Applied AI in a Regulated, Real-World Industry
Location: Belgium / EU (Hybrid or Remote)
Type: Full-time
Company: Seaman Solutions
About Seaman Solutions
Seaman Solutions is a Belgian maritime-tech scale-up building intelligent digital infrastructure for one of the world's most critical yet under-digitalised workforces: seafarers.
We operate at the intersection of AI, compliance, and digital identity, working with shipping companies, training providers, and authorities worldwide. Our mission is to replace fragmented, manual processes with secure, intelligent, and scalable systems that support global mobility and career growth.
Backed by strong commercial traction and public R&D funding, we are entering a new phase focused on deep technology development and long-term platform scalability.
Your Role
As an R&D AI Engineer, you will contribute to the core intelligence layer of our platform.
This is a hands-on applied research role, where you will:
* Explore how AI can operate reliably inside regulated environments
* Translate real operational complexity into practical, production-ready models
* Help shape how data, automation, and trust are designed at scale
* You will need to as well implement and program the found solutions
You will work closely with product, engineering, and leadership — with real influence over technical direction and research priorities.
What You'll Work On (High Level)
* Applied machine learning & AI research for real-world data
* Intelligent processing of structured and unstructured information
* Designing models that balance automation, accuracy, and explainability
* Prototyping and validating AI approaches before production rollout
* Collaborating on scalable, secure AI-ready system architecture
The exact applications will evolve — your role is to help define what's possible and what works.
Your Background
* Experience in AI / ML / Applied Research (industry or academia)
* Strong foundation in Python and ML frameworks
* Comfortable working with imperfect data and complex constraints
* Curious about regulated, high-impact industries
* Enjoys early-stage environments where problems are not predefined
Maritime experience is not required.
Why This Role
* Real R&D, not buzzwords
* Global, tangible impact
* Technical ownership & influence
* Scale-up phase with validated traction
* Direct collaboration with founder & decision-makers
You'll help shape technology that must work in the real world, not just in demos.
