About the Role
Shape the next generation of railway systems in Belgium by contributing to the evolution of a mission-critical traffic management platform. You will support the modernization of a real-time system operating 24/7, where reliability, safety, and performance are essential.
As a Rust Developer, you will be involved throughout the lifecycle of the system, from design to deployment, with a strong focus on robustness and long-term maintainability. You will:
Develop new features aligned with the product roadmap.
Participate in the design and implementation of core software modules.
Produce clear technical documentation.
Support the transition from C to Rust, sharing expertise and mentoring team members when needed.
Take part in technical decisions related to tools, methods, and engineering practices.
Contribute to safety and security activities, including Threat and Risk Analysis (TRA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
Given the operational impact on railway traffic, precision and reliability in coding are key.
Profile / Requirements :
Must-Have Skills
Advanced expertise in Rust development.
Solid background in C.
Working knowledge of Linux environments (development/debug).
Comfortable with Git-based workflows.
Professional proficiency in English plus Dutch or French.
Strong attention to detail, especially in safety-critical systems.
Clear communicator with a collaborative mindset.
Curious, proactive, and solution-oriented.
Hands-on and motivated by complex technical challenges.
Nice to Have
Scripting with Python and/or Bash.
Exposure to Java environments.
Experience writing technical or design documentation.
Ability to navigate between high-level architecture and low-level implementation.
