Overview
A sector-leading telecommunications organisation is seeking an experienced
Senior Data Engineer
to join a major, long-term data platform programme. This role sits within a strategic initiative to build and scale a modern data platform using
Databricks and Apache Spark
, supporting advanced analytics, reporting, and data-driven decision-making at enterprise scale.

Key Responsibilities
* Design, build, and optimise scalable data pipelines using
Databricks and Apache Spark
* Develop robust batch and (where applicable) streaming data solutions
* Work on large-scale datasets to support analytics and business intelligence use cases
* Collaborate closely with data architects, analysts, and business stakeholders
* Ensure high standards around data quality, performance, reliability, and security
* Contribute to architectural decisions and data engineering best practices
* Support and guide less senior engineers within the team
Required Skills & Experience
* Proven experience working as a
Senior Data Engineer
in complex, enterprise environments
* Strong hands-on experience with
Databricks
and
Apache Spark
* Excellent
Python
skills (Scala is a plus)
* Strong SQL and data modelling experience
* Experience with cloud-based data platforms (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
* Solid understanding of modern data architectures (Lakehouse, Data Lake, ELT/ETL)
* Comfortable working in agile, cross-functional teams
Nice to Have
* Experience in telecommunications or other high-volume data environments
* Exposure to streaming technologies (Kafka, Spark Structured Streaming)
* Experience with data governance, performance tuning, and cost optimisation
