Overview:
Our client is looking for an experienced Head of Policy Communications to join our global
communications team. In this pivotal role, you’ll take the lead on
driving and shaping our client’s public voice on the future of technology, privacy, AI, open-source, competition, and internet policy—across regions and audiences. You’ll translate complex, high-stakes policy issues into stories that connect, inspire, and drive impact. You’ll help our client—and the people and partners who believe in an open internet—cut through noise, frame critical debates, and spotlight what’s at stake for users everywhere.
As Head of Policy Communications, you will:
* Lead the development and execution of strategic, global communications on internet policy topics, spanning privacy, security, AI, open-source, competition, and emerging regulatory issues.
* Serve as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to the Director of Policy & Corporate
* Communications and senior leaders, supporting proactive and reactive policy comms across the organization.
* Work closely with our client’s policy, legal, product, engineering, and advocacy teams to shape narratives that advance our client’s mission and differentiate our voice from “Big Tech.”
* Build and nurture relationships with key journalists, policymakers, thought leaders, advocacy organizations, and influencers in technology, digital rights, and policy spheres.
* Craft and edit a wide range of materials—press releases, blog posts, policy statements, op-eds, speeches, regulatory submissions, and executive briefing documents.
* Prepare our client’s spokespeople for high-stakes media, public, and policy engagements, including message development, media training, and issue briefing.
* Track and respond to fast-moving external developments, helping our client seize moments to lead important conversations and manage risks.
* Help shape our client’s public policy positioning on critical product initiatives, supporting launches, campaigns, and issue-based advocacy.
* Collaborate with communications and external agency partners to ensure clarity, alignment, and operational rigor across channels.
* Serve as a point of escalation and counsel in high-risk, complex, or crisis policy scenarios.
What You’ll Already Have:
* 10+ years of experience in policy communications, public affairs, media relations, or related roles, ideally in technology, advocacy, or policy-driven environments.
* Deep knowledge of technology policy issues: privacy, data, AI, competition, digital rights, open source, and internet regulation.
* Exceptional writing and editing skills—with the ability to distill complexity into clarity, urgency, and actionable narrative.
* A track record of building strong relationships with journalists, policymakers, and policy-focused organizations globally.
* Experience advising and supporting senior executives on high-profile, high-stakes communications and issues management.
* Strategic instincts, operational rigor, and comfort with ambiguity and rapid change.
* Confidence operating in a global, remote, and mission-driven organization.
* Experience supporting product communications and collaborating with engineering/technical teams.
* Ability to balance strategic vision with hands-on execution—no job is too big or too small.
* Passion for our client’s mission: making the internet safer, more open, and more human.
Bonus Points For:
* Prior experience in open-source, civil society, or non-profit tech environments.
* Experience in both in-house and agency settings.
* Additional languages beyond English.
