The EIB, the European Union's bank, is seeking to recruit for its Legal Directorate (JU), Operational Policy, Mandates and Non‑EU Operations Department (OPS‑POL), Outside Europe A Division (OEU‑A), Latin America and Caribbean Unit (LAC) at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Banking and Finance Lawyer – Spanish speaker.
This is a full time position at grade 5 for which the EIB offers a permanent contract.
Purpose
The Outside Europe A (OEU‑A) Division deals with the legal documentation and legal issues for projects in the following countries: Neighbourhood Countries (South), Saharan and Sub‑Saharan Africa, Caribbean, Pacific, Asia, Latin America.
The purpose of this position is to provide legal advice and support relating to lending (sovereign/bank/corporate), guarantee transactions, grants and post‑signature work for EIB projects.
Accountabilities
* Manage contacts and negotiations concerning the EIB operations handled by the Division.
* Draft documents, provide advisory legal support, finalize contracts, complete all related legal formalities and legal monitoring.
* Understand and implement specificities arising from the various mandates underpinning the Division’s activities in contractual documentation.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of grant documentation and other blending related activities.
* Contribute to the development of standard legal documentation within the Division’s areas of activity, notably outside of the EU specific documentation.
* Work with other team members, including junior colleagues and paralegals, providing coaching where applicable.
* Participate in horizontal activities of relevance to the Division.
* Liaise with external consultants and supervise their work.
* Conduct legal research on matters and developments of significance to the Division’s interests.
* Proactively keep up to date with legal developments in legislation, regulations and jurisprudence pertaining to the Division’s activities.
* Develop and maintain relationships within the Bank and represent the EIB externally.
Qualifications
* University degree in law (minimum equivalent to a Bachelor, preferably at Master level), preferably obtained in a civil law country.
* Legal qualification, ideally in a civil law jurisdiction.
* Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience in lending and finance.
* Significant experience in the drafting and negotiation of loan and finance documentation in English and Spanish.
* Excellent written and spoken English and Spanish. Good command of French would be an advantage.
