Robotics Application Engineer
At Yamabiko Europe, our mission is to create the bridge that bonds people and nature with the future. We provide innovative solutions for robotized mowing technologies and outdoor power equipment (OPE).
To grow further, address new markets and better serve our customers, we are looking for a Robotics Application Engineer to join our R&D Application Engineering Team, based in Wavre, Belgium.
Your role
You will work on autonomous outdoor robots with a focus on validation, AI and real‑world applications, ensuring our robots, embedded software and connected services are robust, safe and ready for the field.
This is a multidisciplinary hands‑on engineering role, mixing simulation, lab testing, field testing and data analysis — not a desk‑only validation function. You will have close cooperation with our software development team, mechanical development team, customer service department and sales team.
What you will work on:
Validation & testing
* Validation of embedded software for autonomous products.
* Validation of smartphone application and web portal.
* Increase validation automation, repeatability and test coverage across software releases.
* Development of Software‑in‑the‑Loop (SiL) and Hardware‑in‑the‑Loop (HiL) test environments.
AI-based features
* Validate robot features based on cameras and AI algorithms (e.g. object detection, safety behaviour, classification).
* Analyse large datasets (logs, images, sensor data) to assess robustness, performance and failure modes of AI features.
* Contribute to defining validation criteria and KPIs for AI‑based systems.
Stay close to the field and to the customer
* Test autonomous robot behaviour in real outdoor environments (navigation, localisation, safety and performance).
* Support key customer installations, pilots and field tests in collaboration with dealers and partners.
* Participate in root‑cause analysis of complex field issues (hardware, software, GNSS, connectivity, AI behaviour, usage).
* Translate field feedback and validation results into actionable input for R&D.
Build tools, knowledge and documentation
* Develop and use tools for monitoring, debugging and analysing robot behaviour (logs, scripts, dashboards, replay tools).
* Create and maintain clear, high‑quality technical documentation: user manuals and quick guides, technician and validation documentation, release notes and technical bulletins
Your profile
Background and experience
* You have a Master’s degree in Engineering, by preference in SW and/or system engineering.
* Experience in Mechatronics (robotics, automotive, medical equipment or devices, railway, etc.) or Agricultural engineering is an advantage.
* Relevant experience in similar position.
Technical profile
* Broad engineering knowledge (mechanics, electronics, software, telecommunications, sensors) with an understanding of robotic system design, integration, and validation.
* Strong data analysis skills using scripts, automation, Power BI and Database tools.
* Comfortable working with:
* Robot software and embedded systems
* Linux‑based environments
* Interest or experience in AI, camera systems or data‑driven validation is a strong plus.
* Interest in outdoor robotics, GNSS‑based systems or mobile robots is a plus
Mindset & personality
* Solution-oriented and pragmatic approach to addressing engineering challenges.
* Effective communicator for providing feedback and training.
* Enjoys combining simulation, lab testing and real‑world field work
* Having a background or interest in agriculture is a plus.
Languages
* Proficient in English; ability to work in French is required. Knowledge of Dutch, German, or Japanese is a plus.
Geographical scope
We encourage and support flexibility by enabling our employees to work from home for 2 days a week.
Easy reachable by car and public transportation, our office is located in Wavre, 25km south of Brussels.
What do we offer?
* A work-life balance
* An open and nice working atmosphere with colleagues working at a high level of expertise, striving altogether to achieve ambitious objectives
* Multiples trainings to strengthen your skills
* A truly international and multicultural environment
