About the Role
We're seeking an Expert UX Designer (Freelance) to join our client's digital transformation journey in Brussels. This is a freelance opportunity for 11 months (with potential extension), where you'll shape the user experience of public-sector digital platforms that impact millions. Your mission: drive user-centered design, champion accessibility, and deliver solutions that matter.

What You'll Be Doing
Lead user research and needs analysis to uncover actionable insights
Design low- and high-fidelity interfaces with a mobile-first mindset
Develop prototypes and interaction models for rapid concept validation
Ensure all solutions meet WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards
Maintain and evolve the design system, scaling it across projects
Contribute to service design initiatives, proposing end-to-end user journeys
Apply iterative, lab-based co-creation processes with multidisciplinary teams
Facilitate effective communication between clients, product, and technical teams
Act as a bridge between research insights, design intent, and delivery execution
What We're Looking For
Proven experience as a senior or expert-level UX Designer
Deep expertise in user research, interaction design, and usability validation
Track record in iterative, user-centered environments
Ability to collaborate across business, IT, and development teams
Strong communication and facilitation skills
Portfolio demonstrating your UX impact (required for application)

Figma (Expert level)
Adobe XD
Axure
Conceptboard
Mentimeter
Mobile-first prototyping approaches
UX research and testing frameworks
WCAG 2.1 accessibility compliance
Language Proficiency
French: Native
Dutch: Active knowledge (bilingual environment)
English: Active knowledge
Other Requirements
Freelance position with a defined project duration (11 months, with possible extension)
Hybrid working model (onsite and remote collaboration)
Experience in public-sector or large-scale digital ecosystems is a plus
