You will join an Information Systems division responsible for the core life insurance platforms that power contract subscription, contract lifecycle management, tariffs, funds, premiums, and settlements.
These systems sit at the heart of the business. They are business-critical, data-intensive, and deeply interconnected, built on Cobol (Micro Focus) and SQL databases, and integrated with multiple front-end, printing, and communication components.This is not a greenfield or purely Agile product role. You operate in a complex, legacy-rich environment where robustness, correctness, and continuity matter just as much as change.
As a Senior Functional Analyst, you translate high-level business needs into concrete, implementable IT solutions across user interfaces, business logic, and data structures. You typically work on multiple projects in parallel, requiring strong organisation and prioritisation skills.
What you'll do
* You analyse high-level functional requirements and translate them into structured, end-to-end IT solutions.
* You design functional solutions covering
UI behaviour, backend logic, and database structures
, with a strong focus on correctness and maintainability.
* You collaborate closely with business stakeholders, developers, testers, and project managers to align scope, milestones, and expectations.
* You follow up on implementation, ensuring that what is built matches the intended functional design.
* You prepare and execute
functional and integration test cases
, and you actively support testing phases.
* You analyse defects and production issues, propose corrective actions, and support resolution.
* You review backend logic and data flows, including
Cobol code and SQL queries
, when required.
* You report progress, risks, and dependencies clearly to IT and business stakeholders.
What are we looking for?
* You have
5–8 years of experience
as a Functional Analyst or Lead Functional Analyst in complex IT environments.
* You have
solid experience in insurance or banking
, with a strong understanding of core administrative systems.
* You are comfortable working with
legacy backend environments
, including
Cobol (Micro Focus)
and
SQL databases
.
* You have hands-on experience with
functional analysis, solution design, and testing
on large-scale systems.
* You are able to work autonomously, structure your own work, and manage multiple parallel initiatives.
* You communicate clearly and confidently with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* You are fluent in
English
, and fluent in
Dutch OR French
, with good understanding of the other language.
Nice to have
* Experience specifically within
Life Insurance
domains.
* Exposure to subscription flows, contract management, tariffs, or financial calculations.
* Experience in
both Agile and Waterfall
project contexts.
* Experience as a
