SENIOR FUNCTIONAL ANALYST - BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) - PERMANENT POSITION
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Functional Analyst to lead the analysis and functional design of complex digital solutions. Acting as the bridge between business stakeholders and technical teams, you will drive the translation of strategic objectives, business requirements, and regulatory obligations into scalable and effective solutions.
As a senior member of the delivery team, you will provide leadership throughout the software development lifecycle, guiding requirements definition, solution design, stakeholder alignment, and functional governance.
You will work closely with business leaders, product owners, architects, developers, security specialists, and operational teams to ensure solutions are robust, compliant, and aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the elicitation, analysis, and documentation of business requirements, regulations, standards, and technical specifications.
- Own the functional design of complex solutions, ensuring alignment with business objectives, enterprise architecture, security requirements, and operational considerations.
- Produce and maintain high-level functional analyses covering business processes, user journeys, use cases, integrations, data flows, and system interactions.
- Define and review detailed functional specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria to ensure consistency, completeness, and quality across delivery teams.
- Serve as the functional lead and trusted advisor for stakeholders, providing guidance and recommendations on solution design, requirements prioritization, and business process improvements.
- Facilitate workshops and discussions with business, technical, legal, security, and operational stakeholders to build consensus and drive decision-making.
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex functional issues and requirement-related decisions throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate closely with architects and technical leads to ensure proposed solutions are feasible, scalable, secure, and maintainable.
- Support Agile delivery teams by leading backlog refinement, clarifying requirements, and ensuring a shared understanding of business objectives.
- Validate delivered solutions through functional reviews, testing, and acceptance activities, ensuring alignment with business expectations and agreed requirements.
- Establish and promote best practices for requirements management, functional analysis, documentation standards, and process modelling.
- Mentor and support junior analysts, contributing to capability development and knowledge sharing within the team.
- Identify risks, dependencies, assumptions, and impacts across business processes, systems, and stakeholders, and proactively drive resolution.
- Ensure that requirements and solution designs incorporate security, privacy, usability, auditability, compliance, scalability, and operational support considerations from the outset.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive functional documentation, including ERDs, BPMN models, sequence diagrams, service specifications, API requirements, and process flows.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- 8+ years of experience in Functional Analysis, Business Analysis, Solution Analysis, or related disciplines, including experience leading complex initiatives.
- Proven track record of driving requirements and solution design activities for large-scale, enterprise-level systems.
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and complexity.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex business, legal, security, and technical requirements into practical and actionable solution designs.
- Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills, with the ability to build consensus across diverse stakeholder groups and senior leadership.
- Advanced knowledge of UML, ERD, BPMN, and process modelling techniques.
- Strong understanding of Agile delivery methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, and scaled Agile environments.
- Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, Enterprise Architect, and similar analysis and documentation tools.
- Extensive experience creating user stories, use cases, process flows, sequence diagrams, API requirements, and acceptance criteria.
- Experience documenting APIs using Swagger/OpenAPI specifications.
