Your challenge as Senior Business Controller
Position Overview
The business unit Nuclear at Engie is going through a transformation due to multiple units going into decommissioning (Decom) and the Extension of 2 units (Doel 4 and Tihange 3) for 10 years in partnership with the Belgian government (LTO). In this context, the Finance team within the Business Unit Nuclear is looking for a senior Business Controller to strengthen the team.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Business Controller, you will be reporting to the Head of Finance Nuclear and will be entrusted with a broad range of critical tasks with the aim of strengthening the finance setup related to the Decom and LTO program. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Financial planning & analysiss
* Coordinate/Plan the budgeting forecasting process, ensuring alignment with business objectives and group guidelines.
* Steer business performance analysis process across the Nuclear business unit, clarifying requirements from Site Controllers.
* Provide clear management reports on the business performance, bringing a coherent business story and how it's reflected in the financial figures.
* Prepare and present timely, accurate, and insightful management reports covering financial and operational KPIs, risks, and opportunities.
* Monitor and challenge operational and financial performance at both plant and business unit levels, identifying areas for improvement and efficiency gains.
* Support the monthly and quarterly closing processes, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and internal policies
Business Partnering
* Act as a trusted advisor to the business, giving clear insight in financial impacts & fostering cost consciousness.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, procurement, HR, etc.) to ensure adequate business content behind the figures.
* Contribute to the preparation of business cases, scenario and sensitivity analyses
Risk Management & Internal Control
* Contribute to the ERM process.
* Ensure good documentation of closing & budgeting processes, contributing to a robust internal control framework.
* Participate in internal and external audits, supporting audit preparation and implementing recommendations
* Collaboration & Communication
* Prepare presentations and financial materials for internal and external stakeholders, including executive committees, regulatory bodies, and external partners.
* Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and knowledge-sharing within the finance team and across the business unit.
The ideal match
The ideal candidate is a seasoned finance professional with a passion for the energy sector and a proven track record of excellence in business controlling, preferably within a complex, asset-intensive environment such as nuclear, utilities, or heavy industry
* Master's degree in finance, Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, or a related field
* Minimum 10 years of experience in financial controlling, planning & analysis, or business finance, with at least 3 years in a senior or lead role.
* Experience in the energy sector is highly desirable.
* Demonstrated experience in managing budgeting cycles, financial modeling, performance monitoring or investment analysis
* Excellent analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex data and generate clear, actionable insights.
* Advanced proficiency in financial modeling, Excel, and business intelligence tools (Power BI, SAP, etc.).
* Solid understanding of accounting principles (IFRS/GAAP), risk management frameworks, and internal controls
* Strong business acumen and strategic mindset.
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal, capable of engaging with senior management and technical experts alike.
* Results-oriented, with a high degree of initiative, integrity, and resilience.
* Adaptability and openness to continuous learning.
* Team player
* Fluency in English is required; proficiency in French or Dutch is an advantage.
