About the Role
We are seeking a highly analytical and technically skilled Data Scientist to support a strategic initiative in the European energy sector. This role focuses on enabling implicit flexibility in electricity markets—empowering consumers and businesses to adjust energy usage based on price signals, thereby contributing to a more efficient, resilient, and sustainable grid.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams to analyze system imbalances, market behavior, and flexibility potential, helping shape the future of energy infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
* Collect and analyze data on available energy flexibility through research, interviews, and modeling.
* Develop data-driven insights linking:
* Renewable energy forecasts
* Market prices
* System imbalances
* Market participant behavior
* Identify and quantify:
* Installed flexibility (e.g., electric vehicles, smart devices)
* Available flexibility (responsive to price signals)
* Activated flexibility (actual behavioral change)
* Communicate findings to internal stakeholders and support strategic decision-making.
* Contribute to data science initiatives within the energy market and flexibility domain.
Required Skills & Qualifications
* Minimum 3 years of experience as a Data Scientist.
* At least 5 years of hands-on experience with Python for data analysis and modeling.
* Strong understanding of statistical and machine learning techniques applied to large datasets.
* Ability to translate complex business questions into quantitative models and insights.
* Experience working with energy systems or electricity markets is a strong advantage.
* Familiarity with forecasting models, time-series analysis, and market behavior modeling.
Soft Skills & Language
* Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical insights to non-technical stakeholders.
* Proactive, self-driven, and capable of managing both strategic and operational tasks independently.
* Fluent in English (spoken and written); Dutch or French is a plus.
* Team-oriented, solution-driven, and comfortable working in a multicultural environment.
