We are looking for a Scientist Combination Product Characterisation to join the Advanced Materials Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) group within Analytical Development in Beerse (Belgium). AMCI is an international and diverse team of scientists focused on advanced analytical characterization of pharmaceutical products and global analytical investigations supporting both commercial products and the Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS) organization. In this lab-based role, you will specialize in the hands-on characterization of combination products and polymer-based components, generating high-quality mechanical, dimensional, and spectroscopic data that directly support product design, development, verification, and troubleshooting. Your responsibilities Perform advanced material characterization using mechanical testing, imaging, and spectroscopy techniques Plan, execute, and optimize mechanical tests (e.G. tensile, compression, injectability, bending, adhesion and detachment force) Conduct dimensional metrology and fit/form assessments of components Apply spectroscopic and imaging techniques (e.G. IR, microscopy) to investigate polymer identity, morphology, and structure–property relationships Interpret and report results, providing clear, data-driven scientific insights Develop, validate, and document analytical methods, including test parameters and acceptance criteria Ensure proper equipment operation, maintenance, and calibration in compliance with laboratory standards Collaborate with cross-functional teams and present results in technical and project meetings Your profile PhD (or equivalent) in Polymer Science, Materials Science, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physics, or related field Hands-on laboratory experience in mechanical testing and material characterization Experience with combination products or medical devices is a strong plus Familiarity with imaging and/or spectroscopy techniques (e.G. IR, Raman, SEM, optical microscopy) is an advantage Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail Ability to design experiments, analyze data, and interpret results independently Strong communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary, international teams Fluent in English (written and spoken) Choosing Arcadis means a dynamic work environment, interesting projects, and excellent opportunities for personal and professional growth!
