We are looking for Head of Environment/Biosafety who is purpose-driven, structured, and influential to join our Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) team, based at our UCB campus located in Braine‑l’Alleud, Walloon Region, Belgium.
About the role
You are going to play a key role in shaping the environmental and biosafety performance of one of UCB’s largest sites. You will ensure full compliance with environmental and biosafety legislation while driving continuous improvement, sustainability, and innovation. Through your leadership, you will translate regulations into practical solutions that protect people, the environment, and the future of the Braine campus, while supporting site growth and long-term sustainability.
Who you will work with
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of environmental and biosafety experts that you will lead and develop. You will report to the Head of HSE Belgium. You are going to collaborate with Site Management, Operations, Engineering, R&D, and external authorities at local, regional, and federal levels. You will actively contribute to ISO 14001 governance and biosafety committees, acting as a trusted partner across the campus and beyond.
What you will do
1. You will ensure the Braine site fully complies with environmental and biosafety legislation and all permit requirements.
2. You will represent the site with authorities, regulators, waste partners, and biosafety institutions, including Sciensano (SBB).
3. You will manage waste, wastewater treatment, and environmental authorizations using best available techniques and innovative solutions.
4. You will lead the Environmental Management System and drive ISO 14001 certification and continuous improvement.
5. You will act as Biosafety Officer, ensuring risk assessment, training, inspections, emergency preparedness, and data traceability.
6. You will inspire and develop a team of 20 experts, managing budgets and embedding accountability across departments.
Interested?
For this role, we are looking for the following education, experience, and skills
7. Master’s degree in biochemistry
8. Fluent in French and in English
9. Strong knowledge of environmental and biosafety legislation, including ISO 14001 standards.
10. Proven leadership experience managing teams, budgets, and cross-functional stakeholders.
11. Ability to translate complex regulations into practical, sustainable site solutions.
12. Strong communication skills to influence internally and represent the site externally.
13. Structured, proactive mindset with a long-term vision and passion for sustainability.
