Description de l'offre

Gent (or Brussels / Belgium) – Hybrid / On-site / Remote as relevant

Role Overview

As a Product Development Engineer at 3.LIFE, you will drive the end-to-end development of our digital health solutions. From early concepts and prototypes to validated, manufacturable products ready for scale.

You will work closely with R&D, industrial design, software/firmware, clinical, QA/RA and manufacturing partners, owning key parts of the product development cycle and ensuring smooth handovers from prototype to production.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will be diverse and hands-on to the success of our mission. You will:

* Lead product development activities: enclosures, assemblies, interfaces, fixtures and integration with electronics.
* Build, test and iterate prototypes; plan experiments, collect data, and drive design improvements based on evidence.
* Support and manage the transition from prototype to manufacturable design (DFM/DFA): tolerances, materials, processes, assembly steps, testability and cost.
* Coordinate supplier and manufacturing interactions: component selection, drawings, BOM ownership, supplier qualification and change management.
* Develop verification plans: performance, reliability, environmental testing, usability-related engineering verification and incoming inspection strategies.
* Support risk management activities: contribute to risk analyses (e.g., DFMEA/PFMEA), mitigations and documentation.
* Collaborate with QA/RA to ensure product development aligns with ISO 13485 processes and supports CE/MDR expectations.
* Troubleshoot issues across prototypes and early builds: root-cause analysis, corrective actions and documentation.
* Create and maintain clear technical documentation: design files, drawings, specifications, test plans/reports and manufacturing work instructions.
* Continuously improve product performance, user experience, manufacturability and sustainability of design choices.

Qualifications & Skills

At 3.LIFE, we value ownership and collaboration. We believe the best candidates are not only technically strong but also motivated by impact and a willingness to grow. We're looking for someone with:

* A degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electromechanical, Industrial Design Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related field).
* Experience in product development from concept to industrialization (prototype → pilot builds → production).
* Strong practical engineering skills: designing, building, testing and iterating real-world hardware.
* Experience with CAD and engineering documentation (drawings, tolerances, BOMs).
* Ability to manage technical trade-offs across disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software, UX, manufacturing).
* Structured problem-solving skills (root cause analysis, verification mindset, data-driven decisions).
* Comfortable collaborating with suppliers and contract manufacturers.
* Strong communication skills in English and a documentation-first habit.
* A proactive mindset: you take ownership, spot risks early and drive tasks to completion.

Nice-to-Have

Extra strengths that help you shine:

* Experience in medical devices or regulated product development (ISO 13485, EU MDR, IEC 60601 context).
* Knowledge of usability engineering and human factors in physical product design.
* Experience setting up production test strategies (EOL tests, fixtures, calibration workflows).
* Experience with quality tools (e.g. CAPA thinking, design controls, change control).
* Experience with embedded products, sensor integration or low-power devices.
* Familiarity with reliability testing and environmental qualification.

What We Offer

* You won't just be joining our company, you'll be joining a mission-driven team that wants to save lives with technology. We aim to give you the environment and tools you need to thrive:
* The chance to work on a life-changing product that impacts real patients.
* A dynamic, cross-disciplinary environment where innovation and collaboration are the norm.
* Opportunities for professional development, continuous learning and true ownership of your work.
* A competitive salary and benefits package tailored to your local context.
* Flexible working arrangements to support your work-life balance.
