What you will do
We are looking for an experienced and ambitious professional who can lead imec's microfluidic engineering team. The team is responsible for delivering fluidic modelling, design and experimental works according to project requests, in the fields of liquid cooling, life science, etc. The team is also responsible for initiating and exploring innovative early research in fluidics. The team collaborates closely with multiple groups across imec as well as externals, in various bilateral, funded and exploratory projects.
Your primary responsibilities will be:
* Coach and mentor a multidisciplinary team of junior and senior researchers and engineers, ensuring high‑quality scientific and technical output and helping them overcome technical challenges.
* Identify and initiate new research directions, aligning them with imec's strategic roadmaps and customer needs.
* Contribute hands-on where needed and potentially take technical ownership of specific activities.
* Plan resources and assign tasks based on project scope, complexity, team competencies, and customer timelines.
* Oversee execution of research projects, ensuring scientific quality, timely progress, and risk mitigation.
* Communicate proactively and clearly with peers, program managers, customers, and imec leadership.
* Implement and monitor the Human Resources (HR) processes in the team (e.g., setting goals, coaching, evaluation).

Who you are
* You have a PhD in engineering, physics or applied sciences.
* You have a minimum of 5 years' experience in microfluidics. Preferably you have know-how in one or more of the following: life sciences, microfabrication, microelectronics, or related fields.
* You show excellent communication and reporting skills and have experience in leading or mentoring researchers or engineers in a multidisciplinary environment.
* You are a strong team player with excellent organizational skills, a proactive mindset, and the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
