Technical Designer – Secondary Systems
Do you want to work on complex technical projects that support the evolution of modern energy infrastructures? We are looking for a Technical Designer – Secondary Systems to strengthen our technical teams and contribute to high-impact electrical projects in Belgium.
About the role
In this position, you will be responsible for designing secondary electrical systems such as protection, automation, and control. You will work closely with engineers, technicians, and other technical experts throughout the full project lifecycle, from design to commissioning.
You will be part of a collaborative technical design team where accuracy, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement are essential.
Key responsibilities
Design and study phase
* Develop and adapt technical drawings based on project requirements.
* Apply applicable technical standards, internal guidelines, and best practices.
* Integrate new designs within existing electrical installations when required.
* Produce high-quality designs using AutoCAD and perform detailed design reviews.
* Coordinate with project engineers and internal stakeholders to resolve technical challenges.
* Support the production phase by responding to design-related questions.
Execution and commissioning phase
* Provide technical support during installation and commissioning activities.
* Act as a point of contact for contractors and field technicians.
* Analyze on-site issues related to secondary systems and propose practical solutions in collaboration with project leaders.
Training and development
A structured 6-month onboarding and traineeship program is offered to support new hires:
* Introduction to protection, automation, and control systems.
* Hands-on design exercises to build proficiency with tools and methodologies.
* A complete simulated project covering all stages of a real assignment.
* Site and supplier visits to gain insight into manufacturing, testing, and installation processes.
* Training groups organized by preferred working language (Dutch or French).
The goal of this program is to enable you to take ownership of your first projects independently after completion.
Your profile
* A degree in electricity, electromechanics, automation, or another relevant engineering or technical field.
* Strong interest in technical design and engineering activities.
* Experience with CAD tools, particularly AutoCAD, is an advantage.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
* High attention to detail and a structured, organized working style.
* Motivation to learn, develop, and grow in a technical career.
* Good knowledge of either Dutch or French, with openness to learning the other language.
