Principal Architect - Supply Chain Ecosystems & AI Orchestration
Join to apply for the Principal Architect - Supply Chain Ecosystems & AI Orchestration role at ABB
Company Overview
At ABB, we help industries outrun - leaner and cleaner. Here, progress is an expectation - for you, your team, and the world. As a global market leader, we’ll give you what you need to make it happen. It won’t always be easy, growing takes grit. But at ABB, you’ll never run alone. Run what runs the world.
Reporting
This position reports to: IS Manager.
Role Summary
Acts as the Strategic Orchestrator for ABB’s physical and digital supply chain. This role bridges the gap between our System of Record (SAP S/4HANA & Legacy ERPs) and the Physical World (MES, WMS, TMS). You will not just govern the architecture; you will lead the transition from a monolithic ERP landscape to an Agentic AI future, where supply chain optimization (ATP, Scheduling, Routing) is decoupled from the core and orchestrated by intelligent agents across our $6B legacy and $200M agile environments.
Key Responsibilities
Architect the “System of Record” Strategy: define the target architecture where SAP S/4HANA and ECC serve as the immutable data foundation, while integrating seamlessly with best‑of‑breed satellites (Salesforce, Siemens MES, Blue Yonder WMS).
Resolve the “Physical” Integration Gap: align planning (ERP) and execution (MES/WMS). Design data flows that ensure decisions in SAP are instantly actionable on the Factory Floor and Shop Floor constraints are visible back to the Planner (ATP/Scheduling).
Enable the Agentic AI Future: create technical blueprints for a Data‑First Architecture. Define how to extract logic from legacy silos and expose it via APIs/Events to future AI agents, allowing for autonomous cross‑domain orchestration.
Act as the “Strangler Pattern” Authority: reject “New Legacy” customizations, champion the “Keep the Core Clean” philosophy, guide teams to build extensions on BTP or Cloud Platforms rather than hard‑coding logic into the ERP.
Team Dynamics
You will join a battle‑tested, expert‑driven team of veterans who are pivoting to the future. We average 20+ years of IT experience, but we are not “Legacy Huggers”—we are Modernizers. We operate with extreme ownership, valuing working prototypes over PowerPoint slides. This is a high‑performance environment for an Architect who is tired of “maintaining the status quo” and wants to prove that a multi‑billion‑dollar industrial giant can be as agile as a startup.
Qualifications
Business Cartographer: skilled in end‑to‑end process modeling and Process Mining (SAP Signavio or Celonis). Uses tools to visualize “Order‑to‑Deliver” reality vs the plan, with deep understanding of Manufacturing Business Models.
Physical Architect: 10+ years in Enterprise Architecture focused on Physical Supply Chain; experience with MES, WMS/TMS and SAP integration.
Legacy Strangler: proven ability to migrate and modernize, identifying logic trapped in legacy ERPs (Infor, LX, KBM, ECC) and re‑architecting into a modern, decoupled landscape.
Agentic Visionary: understanding of AI and Automation Architectures, can articulate how AI Agents orchestrated across legacy and modern systems drive process efficiency.
Tech Glue: enhanced knowledge of SAP BTP Integration Suite, Kafka/Event Mesh, API Management for real‑time data movement.
Executive Presence: ability to translate complex technical problems into P&L impact for CFO & CEO.
Global Mindset: fluency in English, comfortable in a hybrid model.
