Senior Backend Engineer (Robotics)

A fast-growing robotics company is scaling its autonomous inspection platform used across large industrial facilities worldwide. Their robots combine advanced mobility, autonomy, and AI to perform routine inspections safely and efficiently in environments that are difficult for humans to access.
They’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design and build the backend systems and APIs that underpin the next generation of robotic applications, enabling deep integrations with customer systems and cloud platforms.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems and APIs for robotic applications
* Develop core services supporting inspection workflows and end-to-end solutions
* Build foundational backend systems that enable effective web and product development
* Debug and test applications in simulation, in-house, and in real-world deployments
* Collaborate with external partners to integrate third-party systems and solutions
* Advocate for modern web frameworks and backend best practices
* Write clean, testable code and clear technical documentation
* Contribute to planning, prioritisation, and delivery of team objectives
What They’re Looking For
* Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, or similar
* Strong experience designing and building maintainable, scalable APIs
* Strong in TypeScript and backend web technologies
* Ability to work across multiple languages such as Python/C++
* Strong interface-driven design mindset with a focus on API consistency and usability
* Experience testing, debugging, monitoring, and improving production backend systems
* Strong collaboration and communication skills in hybrid or distributed teams
* Comfort working across disciplines with product, frontend, and design teams
Nice to Have
* Experience with backend frameworks such as NestJS
* Exposure to MQTT or industrial communication patterns
* Experience integrating APIs with third-party enterprise systems
* Frontend development experience
* Interest in robotics-related domains such as sensor data or resource-constrained systems
Hybrid working in Barcelona, open to relocators.
